Best Tacos in Orlando

Orlando is full of chain restaurants from Applebee’s to Taco Bell, which surprisingly is what tourists tend to go towards when visiting. However, there are so many local businesses in Central Florida that tourists, and some residents, often miss. Today we’re going to focus on the top taco shops in the area. We asked the most popular Orlando foodie groups who had, what they thought to be, the best tacos. They definitely did not disappoint.

MX Tacos

MX Tacos was the number one most reviewed taco spot in the Orlando area, so I had to check this place out. This popular taco truck that we visited is located right behind Wally’s Liquors on Mills Ave, but their main building is off of Bumby Ave in Orlando.

The food truck opened in 2021 and specifically acts as a Texas-style breakfast cart, open from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Stop by here for a breakfast taco in the morning, then head over to their main restaurant and order some birria tacos for lunch. The taco we tried had smoked brisket, cotija cheese and eggs, with black beans folded into a cheese crust made of Monterey and Cheddar. It was absolutely delicious!

MX Tacos main location opened in 2019 right in the heart of the Milk District, and just celebrated their 3 year anniversary this past March. Ryan Manning is the main chef behind the traditional Mexican menu that is inspired by different regions around the country. Before MX Taco, Manning was a chef at the Ritz Carlton in Mexico, and created this new restaurant to bring back the traditions to Orlando. They also offer catering for those looking to host a party on Taco Tuesday.

They serve everything at this location from tacos and burritos, to Pozole and Mexican street corn. There is also a different menu for those who have allergies, or are gluten-free and vegetarian. Once you order your meal, there are three different homemade hot sauces to top it with as well.

Hunger Street Tacos

Hunger Street Tacos has two locations – one in Winter Park that opened in 2017, and another in Winter Garden that opened in 2021. They have hundreds of 5 star reviews, and was by far one of the number one places when we asked Orlando foodies where to check out. They’re open from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and offer dine-in, takeout, and catering.

Hunger Street Tacos has a wide variety of tacos on their menu, including some interesting ones like Grilled Cheese and Hibiscus & Guac. Like MX Tacos, they also offer several options on their menu for those with allergies and varying preferences, including a separate menu solely for those who are Vegan.

We tried the Costra de Asada (steak), Suadera (brisket), and the Fried Avo Taco. The Suadera was the favorite of the three, with the brisket and other ingredients blending perfectly together.

Overall

Out of these two tacos places that we tried, Hunger Street Tacos and MX Tacos were pretty close. Each location had great options, flavors, and atmosphere. Although these were the top recommended, there are so many other taco spots in Central Florida that we need to try.
