Community Spotlight: Clermont

Known for its picturesque hills and shimmering lakes, Clermont is easily one of the fastest growing cities in central Florida and that isn’t showing signs of slowing.

Where is it?

Located 30 minutes west of downtown Orlando, Clermont was established in the late 1800’s as a thriving citrus community thanks to its convenient location on a chain of lakes. Today it’s home to over 40,000 residents, nearly a quarter of which being added within the last 10 years. Read along to find out why people from all over the country are flocking to this Orlando suburb with a small town feel and a great deal to explore.

What is there to do?

The recent rise in interest in Clermont has led to a massive rebirth of the downtown area, if not the entire city in general. Over the last several years, the addition of two breweries, an indoor food hall and various restaurants have made locals more interested in staying in town and drawn the attention of even non-residents.The Montrose Market international food hall is home to 8 different vendors and a stage that boasts a rotating schedule of live music and performers, while Suncreek Brewery and Clermont Brewing Company are only a hop, skip and jump away! Let your taste buds savor in the experience and find yourself never running out of things to try. It’s our recommendation to bring a friend- that way you can try what they’re having too!

How far is it from the other Central Florida attractions?

If you’re looking to branch outside of downtown, the outdoors are waiting to be explored and Clermont provides countless opportunities for you to do just that. Spend your time adventuring the hiking trails of Lake Louisa State Park and nearby Oakland Nature Preserve or take a short trip to visit the natural springs of Ocala National Forest and the Crystal River. If you’re looking for something a little less “in the wild” and a little more nature “inspired,” Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park is a quick 45 minute drive away and provides all the comforts of indoor plumbing. As a matter of fact, all four Disney theme parks are a 45 minute drive from Clermont while Universal Studios is around 30. With so many options, how can you choose? Not yet mentioned but equally as important, have you been dreaming of Florida’s sandy white beaches? Depending on which coast appeals to you more, Cocoa, Daytona and Clearwater Beach are all around an hour and a half away.

Who is Clermont best for?

While Clermont has its fair share of traditional, older homes, new construction communities are popping up left and right to meet the growing demand. If you’re open to exploring your options, the average home price of $350,000 is pretty reasonable compared to other areas in central Florida. Not only is Clermont known as one of the more affordable areas around Orlando, but the schools are highly rated and the low crime rate ranks in the 86th percentile according to crimegrade.org.
