Community Spotlight: Maitland

By Kismet Kohn

Maitland is an up-and-coming city located near Winter Park, featuring small businesses and good schools. Being pretty close to downtown Orlando and Baldwin Park as well,  Maitland has something for everyone!

Location

Maitland is located just north of Downtown Orlando, making it the center of Florida. It’s about an hour's drive to any of the east coast beaches, such as New Smyrna or Cocoa Beach. Disney World and Universal Studios are just thirty minutes away so you can just hop on I-4 and drive to a theme park on a whim if you wanted to! The art museums are located just fifteen minutes away making it a great location if you like the arts. There are so many hidden gems located within a thirty-minute radius of Maitland, it’s impossible to get bored!

Pricing and History

Maitland homes range from around $300,000 to $700,000 depending on their locations. The average sale price over the past year has been around $500,000 which is 30% higher than the average amount houses sold for last year. Houses tend to sell fast in Maitland and on average sell after only 17 days on the market.

If you’re not looking for a house, Maitland has many new apartment buildings, such as the Maitland City Centre. The apartments tend to rent out for $1,180 on average but it varies greatly depending on how new the apartment complex is and its amenities.

Food Options

Maitland is in a great location because you’re only ten minutes away from Winter Park but it’s big enough that it still has its own culture. New restaurants are popping up all the time, such as Luke’s Kitchen and Bar. This restaurant is perfect for any occasion.

One of my personal favorites is Seoul Garden, a small Korean restaurant located on Howell Branch. This restaurant serves the best quality and biggest servings of Korean food for a relatively cheap price.

Antonio’s is also very good, offering an Italian food menu that includes pizzas, eggplant parmesan, and pastas.

Stores

Since Maitland is a smaller city, it doesn’t have too much room for a large number of stores but everything is within ten minutes of any house or apartment. There are the chain stores, such as Publix, Walmart, and Target, but my favorite store is the Blackbird Comics and Coffeehouse. This is the perfect place to go if you want to get work done, have some good coffee, or browse their comics and merchandise collection.

Overall

Maitland is the perfect place for a family because of its prime location for elementary and middle schools, but it’s also a great location for college students because of its proximity to Rollins College in Winter Park and the University of Central Florida in Oviedo. If you’re looking for somewhere to live that has it all, Maitland is definitely a good choice!
