“First Family” Experience at WDW

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be the first family in the parks when they open? For years, I have stood in line for rope drop and tried to calculate what time I would need to get up and get over to the parks to be the first person inside. I finally found out what happens if you are lucky enough to be the first family inside the park! Here is what we know!

How To Get Chosen

There is no definite way to ensure that you are picked as the “First Family”. However, here are some tips that may help!  If you are up early enough, head over to the parks to be there in time for “rope drop”. Rope drop is Disney lingo for the daily opening of one of the Disney parks, sometimes including an actual rope. It helps to be extra enthusiastic and “dress the part”. Usually, if a Cast Member sees you as a very excited Disney-dressed family, you are more likely to stand out and have your chance as “First Family”. If you are lucky enough, the Cast Member will choose your family as “First Family” and you’ll get to experience all kinds of bonus perks throughout your day.

The Perks of “First Family”

Being escorted into the park by a Cast Member is one of the first perks if chosen as the “First Family”. Once you’re inside, you will be able to go to the front of the line on multiple attractions. It is very similar to how the Disney VIP Tours work, except this is complimentary!

The Cast Member escorting you will also tell you fun facts and details about the park and the rides you are enjoying! In years past, guests who were picked to be “First Family” got to ride the WDW Railroad with Mickey & Friends. This would give the family the opportunity to get up close and personal with their favorite characters. They could also wave to the crowds from the top of the Main Street Train Station. Other “First Family” guests have received a gold coin that acted as a “Fast Pass” to let them skip the lines.

Overall

When chosen as the “First Family”, it is truly a magical and unique experience. Cast Members are always finding ways to go above and beyond to create a little bit of extra Disney Magic for guests. Many people do not even know that this fun, extra surprise even exists. However, it does make waking up at 6am to get to the parks a little more exciting! This is definitely an unforgettable memory for all who are lucky enough to experience it!
