As an Orlando local dog mom, I am constantly on the search for new and exciting things to do with my dog around the city. In the past couple of months, I was introduced to a golden gem among dog parks – the Lake Baldwin Dog Park. The entire park is over 23 acres, and has beautifully shaded areas as well as a vast lakefront where dogs can go swimming!
Shade & Swims
I have a Golden Retriever and Labrador Retriever mix, which means two things. She loves swimming more than anything else in the world, and she could sniff for 16 hours straight without a care in her mind. Lake Baldwin Park is the best of both worlds for my pup. It is absolutely massive so she can sniff to her heart’s content, and there is also plenty of water to swim and play in.
The entire park is filled with massive trees with hanging branches that shade the majority of the park. This is amazing in the Florida heat for keeping fluffy dogs cool while they run free. Right before you reach the water you’ll also notice the sandy beach which dogs love to dig in. My dog particularly loves to scratch her back in the sand after a swim.
Even when we go on a weekday, there are plenty of dogs to meet. The park has an array of amenities to make your visit more pleasant, like a shower station to wash your sweaty pup before they hop in your car.
For the Humans
This park also features a Little Free Library, one of my favorite things to take a peek in when we visit. Included are also boat ramps, and pavilions with picnic tables for the humans of the group to enjoy. There are also restrooms in the park which is usually a rarity in a dog park, but very much needed! The lake is for dogs only to swim in, but occasionally I’ll see people wading up to their knees in the water while visiting the park.
Location
Located in Winter Park, there are so many other restaurants, bakeries, and shops to check out close by – many of them dog friendly! My personal recommendation for this area is the Briarpatch restaurant. Here you can sit with your dog on the patio and enjoy brunch, cocktails, and delicious house-made desserts.
ot dog friendly, another great place to visit nearby is Light on the Sugar Bakery Café. This spot is home to adorably cute treats, like their Pokemon macarons and famous crepe cakes.
Overall
Looking for somewhere fun to take your furry friend this weekend? I seriously do not have the words to describe how much my little bestie and I love the Lake Baldwin Dog Park. With acres upon acres for dogs to explore, and a huge lake to swim in, this is a puppy paradise and we enjoy every second we get to spend here. I sure hope it’s paw-sible for you to visit soon! What’s your favorite dog-friendly spot?
