Light on the Sugar Bakery and Café

Orlando is home to a melting pot of foods, featuring fusions of cultures and flavors everywhere you look. Light on the Sugar Bakery and Café is one of my favorite local spots to enjoy traditional French pastries that are infused with Asian inspired flavors. Located in Winter Park, this bakery is home to a variety of sweet treats. They also have drinks like teas, lemonades, and lattes, all in a cozy shop with individual nooks to relax in.

Macarons and Pastries

In 2021, Light on the Sugar went viral with their absolutely adorable Pokemon shaped macarons. Although the Pokemon macarons are not currently available, you’ll frequently find macarons of various flavors and shapes in their display case, especially during holidays. On Easter, they had macarons shaped like bunnies and chicks, which were almost too cute for our instagram feeds!

Along with their viral macarons, Light on the Sugar is famous for its crepe cakes and cream puffs. Crepe cakes are cakes made with layers of traditional french crepes stacked super tall, creating a super light and creamy texture. Personally, the cream puffs that I’ve had here are the best cream puffs I’ve had in Orlando so far. There are so many flavors of puffs to choose from, ranging from Snickers to Crème brûlée. I’ve tried both the ube cream puff as well as the cookies and cream, and both were exceptional. I’m an Oreo girl so the cookies and cream is something I definitely suggest to my friends, as the cream puff has a crispy Oreo topping with a delicate Oreo mousse filling inside.

On this recent trip, I asked the employee at the counter what her favorite treat was, and she suggested the ube cheesecake. After tasting it, my mind was blown! Their cheesecake is so good, it’s dense with the perfect mix of sweet and savory. They also have tarts and other baked goods available, and many times they will be in the shape of adorable animals or characters.

Drinks

Delicious baked goods aren’t the only thing that Light on the Sugar has to offer, as they also have unique latte flavors showcased on their menu like Tiger Sugar and Cookies N’ Cream. The shop also serves a variety of teas and lemonades, with unique flavors like lavender, passionfruit, and lychee rose. My personal suggestion would be the grapefruit lemonade for a fruity and tangy beverage.

Overall

For some of the best cream puffs in Orlando, as well as other adorable treats and drinks, Light on the Sugar Bakery and Café has your back. The shop is also super cozy, with tables for groups and nooks for individuals and couples to study, work or relax. Light on the Sugar is also family owned and offers catering of their sweet treats for parties and events! I can’t wait to see what other creations they’ll be baking up next. What pastry or drink are you going to try?
