The Florida Department of Transportation and Florida Expressway Authority have several significant road infrastructure projects underway, with a total budget of $4 billion over the next five years. These projects aim to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across the region. We went through the list and got the details so you don’t have to!
534 Extension (between Lake Nona and Narcoossee Rd): This project will extend 3.5 miles of new roadway into the St. Cloud/Sunbridge area, aiming to support future growth and reduce congestion.

516 Connector (linking Lake County and Orange County): Stretching from 429 to Route 27, this connector will significantly cut travel time on what is currently a 30-minute trip between counties. By easing the commute between these growing regions, the project will help facilitate economic growth and provide faster routes for both daily travelers and commercial vehicles.

532 Widening (expanding the highway from two lanes to four lanes): Located on Lake Wilson Road and Osceola Polk Line Road, this upgrade will improve traffic flow in a rapidly developing area. The widened highway will also accommodate future population increases and create safer driving conditions for residents and tourists in the busy corridor.

I-4 Improvements
As part of the Florida Department of Transportation initiative project “I-4 Beyond”, a number of road projects are ongoing in order to improve the I-4, including changes to Sand Lake Exchange, Daryl Carter Parkway Exchange, and the 535.
-
Sand Lake Road Interchange: The Sand Lake Road (SR 482) and I-4 interchange is being reconstructed as a diverging diamond. This includes a new loop ramp to replace left turns from Sand Lake Road to Turkey Lake Road, improving traffic flow. Two westbound express lanes are also being built to connect with existing lanes near Kirkman Road, which will transition to a single express lane extending to SR 536.

Daryl Carter Parkway Interchange: This project transforms the Daryl Carter Parkway overpass into a diverging diamond interchange, adding new ramps to relieve congestion at I-4 and SR 535. The project includes exit ramps from both directions of I-4 to Daryl Carter Parkway and a future westbound entrance ramp. A buffer-separated express lane from Daryl Carter Parkway to SR 536 is also part of the plan.

SR 535 Interchange: The SR 535 and I-4 interchange will be partially reconstructed to improve safety and access. New features include a loop ramp from Apopka-Vineland Road to westbound I-4, realigned ramps, and extended turn lanes. Additionally, a westbound express lane will be added, connecting SR 536 to Daryl Carter Parkway, to improve overall traffic flow and reduce congestion.
