What is it?
If you’re ever in Clermont running errands or picking up lunch, you’ve gotta pay a visit to the most adorable coffeehouse. Orlando Cat Cafe, which is half Minch Coffee company and half cat sanctuary, specializes in two things – freshly roasted coffee and finding sweet cats and kittens a forever home. This is something I can get behind!
Coffee & Cats
There are two sides to this storefront. One being Minch Coffee, a clean, aesthetically pleasing space serving hot and cold coffee beverages, espresso, smoothies, and small cafe snacks like fresh pastries and breakfast sandwiches. While paying for your coffee it’ll be hard to ignore the playful cats that may be eyeing you from the other side of the store. To the left of the register, there’s a large glass window looking into where the cats live and it was so uplifting to see the cats anticipate our arrival!
So what came first, the coffee or the kitties? The answer is coffee.
Owners Suzanne and Mathias Bernal have been taking part in the coffee industry since around 2005, with years of coffee knowledge in the making. For almost ten years, they put everything into the first coffee shop they co-founded – Axum in Winter Park. After 2020, and both heavily influenced by their experiences in Europe with coffee, they knew together they would build something amazing. And that they did. Minch (the birthplace of coffee in Ethiopia) now proudly serves fresh roasted coffee and is one of the best reviewed shops in Clermont!
What To Expect
Don’t worry, if you have any allergies or are not a fan of cats! You can still enjoy what Minch Coffee has to offer as the cat sanctuary is completely separate from the cafe. Upon entering, you and your friends can pay 10 dollars each which entirely goes towards the cats food, enrichment and medicines they may need. You can spend up to an hour with the cutest variety of kittens and adult cats after this small fee/donation. All cats in the sanctuary are up for adoption, and getting to know them before is the perfect way to decide which cool cat works best with your lifestyle.
Here you’ll meet kittens as young as a few months, looking to bat at your hoodie strings, and adult cats who couldn’t care less that you were there (as most cats do), unless you had some treats. But even then, they loved being pet on and cuddled, so we both win.
It’s a known fact that spending time with animals eases stress and alleviates anxiety. So why not put money towards an aromatic coffee and an hour with these little natural mood boosters?
Come in and show your local coffee and kitty scene some love at the Orlando Cat Cafe!
