Long-term improvement strategies at Orlando International Airport now include road upgrades. Board members of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) approved a Florida Department of Transportation grant agreement for $2.5 million to ease traffic congestion along Jeff Fuqua Boulevard.

The project will focus on improving traffic flow via the following list of improvements:
- Widening of Jeff Fuqua Boulevard at the intersection of Terminal A Loop Road and install a barrier wall
- Widening the far western side of Jeff Fuqua Blvd. toward the Air Operations Area fence
- Widening the eastern side of the Terminal A entrance
- Remove and replace one overhead sign truss
- Remove one overhead cantilever sign truss
- Removal of the second rental car return lane
- Improving stormwater drainage
- Relocating utilities
- Repainting pavement markings
- Milling, resurfacing and widening pavements where required
A condition of the grant agreement is a project completion date of June 1, 2030. The bidding process for design and construction services will begin next year with groundbreaking expected in late 2027.

The traffic easement expands a list of projects aimed at improving airport service in four key areas: customer experience, community, infrastructure, and people. Plans were approved last year by the GOAA Board with completion dates ranging between five and 10 years. Among them are the following goals:
- Activating 60% of the vacant State Road 50 properties neighboring Orlando Executive Airport by 2035.
- A 30% increase in revenue generated by retail, food services, car parking, and advertising.
- The addition of 8,000 public parking spaces at MCO North and South terminals by 2030.
- A 40% increase in the number of small businesses working with Orlando International Airport by 2030.
A new gate link tram system is currently being installed with completion expected in the fall of 2027 and a concessions revamp at Terminals A and B is adding new restaurants and vendors.
