Projects Coming to Orlando

Did you know there are some community-based projects coming to redevelop Orlando as we know it? Let’s think beyond the theme parks and beyond suburbia and focus on the actual city of Orlando, and the 31 zip codes coming in! It is amazing to watch this all unfold and develop. Here are some exciting new projects coming to Orlando.

1. Lake Eola

The downtown corridor is one of the most vibrant and fun places with a lot of opportunity. Last October, the city of Orlando approved a $32 million plan to redo Lake Eola. The $32 million will go to a few different parts of this upcoming project. First, they will expand the amphitheater, putting even more coverage on it and making it bigger so that more people can enjoy that space. They’re also going to expand the boardwalk, add bathrooms, a grill, and even more space to make Lake Eola Park more of a community gathering place. Check out the master plan for this project here!

2. RoseArts District

What was recently a more industrial and blended area is now going to get a huge overhaul. Someone is paying $400 million to redevelop this whole area. There are 5,600 apartment units coming, which is great because there’s a massive need for more apartment buildings in the area. Whether it’s low-income housing, affordable housing, etc. The more apartments and supply that come in, the lower rent prices will be in Orlando. Retail, restaurants, a concert pavilion, open green spaces, public art, and a clock tower are just a few things on the impressive list of things to come here! It’s truly an amazing opportunity for reshaping this whole area!

3. Universal Building Housing Units

Universal has so many great projects on the horizon, one of them being Epic Universe – their new highly anticipated theme park. In addition to that, Universal is investing over $150 million to build 1,000 apartment units that will be affordable housing for their team members. Universal’s Housing for Tomorrow will sit on roughly 20 acres of land and will be right near the future home of Universal’s Epic Universe. Disney has also announced that they will be building affordable housing for their Cast Members over in the Horizon West area. Speaking of Disney, the new $800 million Disney Campus is well on its way to completion over in Lake Nona! Check out the whole “Housing for Tomorrow” project here!

4. Dr. Phillip’s Charities & The Packing District

Just outside of College Park in Orlando, there’s a new area called the Packing District.

A lot of growth and development is coming to the area soon! Toll Brothers have a massive new development called Brix that will be ready soon. Dr Phillips charities partnering with the Four Rivers Foundation bringing an agricultural “farm to table” area, a new Publix was just approved to be built as well as a 40,000 square foot office building, parking decks and many more amazing things to come. The 17,000 square foot food hall is moving forward with steam! The Four Rivers Foundation will be helping by growing food and giving it not only to the food hall, but also to underprivileged people in the Orange County area.  The Packing District will bring a new sense of community and bring people together. 5. The Grow

The Grow is an Orlando-based Project Finance & Development LLC’s plan to create an “agrihood” development in East Orlando. This will be really far east of Orlando, almost in the shadow of UCF. Some locals were not too happy with this idea and complained at the county level about the development process. They didn’t want that large rural area to be redeveloped. The area was zoned for about 2,000 new housing units. There will be 1,700 single family homes and 300 townhomes. There’s also going to be 165,000 square feet of commercial retail office in this area. 33 acres have been set aside specifically for agricultural use. There will be a 20-acre community park and 12 miles of recreational trails. Also to come is “edible landscaping”, a street for farmer’s markets and a farm to table restaurant. Read all about this community here!

Overall

It’s amazing to see the city of Orlando go through a new revitalization phase. New things are coming through these projects, and are being brought to life. Orlando is expanding beyond our incredible theme parks, and it is so wonderful to watch it all unfold. There will be a new sense of community and more culture and diversification in our area that is going to make it even better than before!
