Rides and Attractions Coming to Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World is forever changing and growing, as we’ve seen over the past 50 years. With this in mind, many big projects are coming within the next year or two, while others have sadly been shelved due to budgetary reasons. Magic Kingdom will be welcoming a huge, new attraction within (hopefully) a year and Epcot will be welcoming many new attractions while it is undergoing its overhaul. Here are some rides and attractions coming to Walt Disney World that we are most excited about!

1. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (Epcot)

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a long-anticipated ride opening Summer 2022! This omnimover roller coaster will be a new and innovative ride system unlike anything you’ve ever seen at Disney World before. It will be a storytelling roller coaster that will rotate 360 degrees so that you don’t miss a single bit of the action! Cosmic Rewind is currently in its final stages of development and will feature a new and unique story created by Walt Disney Imagineers. The story will start with the Guardians of the Galaxy whisking you away on a fun-filled adventure across the cosmos. Who’s excited to join these superheroes on an epic mission?

2. TRON: Lightcycle Run (Magic Kingdom)

TRON: Lightcycle Run is the newest roller coaster coming to Magic Kingdom. It has been under construction for a few years now at this point, but completion is near! This ride is being modeled after the TRON coaster in Shanghai Disneyland, which opened in 2016 with the park. It will be a roller coaster ride where riders will board a two-wheeled lightcycle and fly through TRON’s high-tech and futuristic universe. While there is no official opening date yet, the construction of the ride seems to be moving along very quickly.

3. Fantasmic Updated Show (Hollywood Studios)

Disney fans have been waiting for the return of Fantasmic since Walt Disney World closed due to the global pandemic in March 2020. It was announced at the 2021 Disney D23 Expo that Fantasmic will be returning in 2022 to Disney World and Disneyland! Not only will we be getting to see Disney’s greatest nighttime spectacular again, but there will be some big changes! A whole segment of the old version of Fantasmic will be replaced with new characters, animation, stunt performers and more. Also, be ready to welcome characters from Moana, Frozen and Aladdin! This is definitely one of the rides and attractions I’m most excited for!

4. Moana: Journey of Water (Epcot)

Moana: Journey of Water will be more so an experience rather than a ride. The new attraction will be located in World Nature, one of Epcot’s new “neighborhoods”. It will be located between Spaceship Earth and The Seas with Nemo & Friends. This interactive water trail will allow guests to experience magical, living water in a beautiful setting. Guests will walk through the trail through a lush environment that will educate them about the water cycle, and how it helps and affects the world we live in. World Nature is the perfect Epcot “neighborhood” to feature this new attraction, and will be dedicated to teaching guests about the beauty of our natural world.

5. Play Pavilion (Epcot)

This brand new and exciting addition to Epcot was originally supposed to be finished in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary. However, due to the global pandemic it was slightly delayed. The new expected completion date is sometime during 2022, with no solidified open date yet. The Play Pavilion is replacing the Wonders of Life location at Epcot and will be devoted to creativity, imagination and fun. In this will be an interactive city where guests can interact with characters and partake in special activities. One of which is a fashionable quest featuring Edna Mode from The Incredibles. For those you love DuckTales, it will also include a water balloon fight featuring Huey, Dewey, Louie and Webby.

Overall

With so many new and exciting rides and attractions coming to Walt Disney World in the near future, it is a great time to come to the parks! Magic Kingdom will be debuting its most thrilling ride to date and Epcot will be undergoing a huge renovation. Animal Kingdom has also been quietly adding and changing things, such as the new addition of their show Kite Tails. There are so many fun things to see and do right now, and so many great things to look forward to in the next year! What are you most excited to see that’s coming to Walt Disney World?
