What is a short-term rental property?

Short-term rentals are alternatives to traditional hotels. These fully furnished investment homes generate income from vacationing tenants.

Local and state ordinances define short-term rentals.

It is essential to check your state, city, county, or homeowners' association (HOA) laws before starting a short-term rental program to determine your eligibility and obtain any necessary permits. Many local ordinances have a maximum number of days that an individual can rent a short-term rental. For example, in the City of Orlando, Osceola County, and Orange County, a short-term rental is defined as one that is less than 30 consecutive days within 12 months for single-family dwellings. The maximum length of stay can vary depending on the type of dwelling and the zoning district.
