The Bao Spot Brings Out of this World Eats to Downtown Orlando

By Yasmene Warren

You can spend lightyears looking for them, but only one spot in Orlando is home to the best bao in the galaxy — we’re talking about The Bao Spot. Ready to have your taste buds blown out of this world? Let’s check it out!

All About The Bao Spot

The Bao Spot is a small, family-owned restaurant located on West Church Street in downtown Orlando that just opened this past December!

The idea for The Bao Spot sparked from the owner’s life in Orlando, who grew up feeling like there weren’t enough unique places to eat.

The Bao Spot’s mission is to introduce people to amazing culinary bites while creating new memories for those who visit to leave with.

But you may be asking - what is it? Bao is a bread-like filled dumpling that originates from Chinese cuisine. If that sounds like something up your alley, stop by Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m., Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3 a.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 3 a.m.

The Baos & the Bites

The Bao Spot is the spot for all things bao, but this place has that and more to offer.

Start off with fried gyoza, crispy french fries, Martian munchies made of crispy sprouts and honey bacon, or rocket nachos with fresh ahi tuna, avocado, Mexican cheese, and wasabi chips.

If you’re into rice bowls, you can try the Perfect Mass or the Super Nova. The Perfect Mass comes with pork belly, spicy panko tofu, kimchi, ajitama, and scallions. The Super Nova makes your mouth water with spicy shrimp, bacon jam, sautéed mushrooms, ajitama, and kimchi cucumber.

Burger lovers will find their match made in heaven at The Bao Spot. You can order “THE” Cheeseburger, a spicy chicken sandwich, or the burger of the month.

Of course, what you came here for: the baos. Indulge in finds like the Astro Pig, the Big Bang, the Mojo and more. You can also try the bao of the month.

If you have a big party or just a lot of mouths to feed, you can order the Infinity Combo, which comes with 10 baos, a large fry, and four drinks for just $68!

For dessert - delight in sweet churros with flavors like Nutella, dulce, guava and cheese, or classic original. Pair it with vanilla ice cream for an extra sweet treat.

The Bao Spot also serves specialty boba with flavors like taro, black tiger sugar, matcha, strawberry, and more.

Inside the Restaurant

Prepare for liftoff when you walk through the doors of The Bao Spot, as this restaurant takes its status as having the best bao in the galaxy to a whole new level.

The dark, ambient lighting fools you into feeling like you’ve been transported to outer space as the ceilings are painted with blue and violet hues with twinkling stars reminiscent of a galaxy.

When it comes to seating, you can also dine at the high-top bar and look out the window of your spaceship as ritzy, 30s-themed tunes play in the background.

You might also want to bring a gas mask as the robotic dinosaur affixed to the wall lets out its steam every few minutes, filling the room with a foggy haze.
