This new place puts the “creative” in Creative Village. Downtown Orlando’s apartment complex The Julian has a lovely new restaurant resting on its bottom floor, and it’s called The Monroe. Let’s check it out!
What is The Monroe?
The Monroe describes itself as a “diverse social gathering place” and is located in Downtown Orlando on North Terry Avenue in Creative Village. It is on the ground floor of The Julian Apartments, making it the perfect, easy-to-access amenity for residents!
This place is the fourth concept of the Good Salt Restaurant Group and strives to provide a nostalgic experience by showcasing childhood favorites on its menu. It serves coffee, alcohol, lunch, brunch and dinner.
Coffee is served Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lunch is served Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and brunch on weekends at the same time. Dinner can be enjoyed on Tuesdays through Fridays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
If you just want to stop in for some drinks, The Monroe’s happy hour runs Tuesdays through Fridays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Part of The Monroe is its newest addition called Front Porch, which sits right next to it and overlooks Creative Village and Luminary Green Park. It serves as a more casual, animal friendly place to get drinks and small bites.
What’s On the Menu?
When you come here, you better come hungry because The Monroe has a menu that’s sure to fill you right up!
For the main course, there are several selections such as The Monroe’s famous fried chicken, faroe island salmon, crispy chicken sandwich, or the Monroe burger. There are also plenty of shareable plates to order, such as the cheshire pork belly, St. Louis ribs and artisan cheese plate.
Under the “garden” section is where you’ll find dishes like acorn squash soup, Monroe “harvest salad” and parsnip “bravas.”
Once you get your fill of savory food, you can order something sweet like the pineapple upside down cake, the dream brownie, or the perfect cheesecake.
The Ambiance
The Monroe’s mission to provide a nostalgic dining experience was definitely made complete for me. The whole space is designed in a midcentury fashion and is filled with vibrant colors and abundant plant life.
The front of the restaurant overlooks Creative Village, and the back wall is a large garage door that provides a lovely view of the courtyard in The Julian.
While you’re enjoying your meal, feel free to play a game of table shuffleboard, read a book, or just enjoy the beautifully decorated environment around you!
Overall
If you’re looking for a cool place to bring your friends and family for a tasty bite or a cold drink, then The Monroe may be the spot for you. Not only is the food good, but the energy is too. This place is just another one of Orlando’s greatest gems, so be sure to check it out!
