The Pizza Press in Winter Garden

By Holley Long

Build-your-own pizza restaurants seem to pop up everywhere these days, but there’s at least one with an immersive environment you might not expect.

The Restaurant

The Pizza Press, founded in 2012, aims to make everyone enjoy a newsworthy experience while dining. The restaurant’s theme is inspired by 1920s American journalism, when someone selling a newspaper was a common sight on every street corner.

The restaurant decor feels reminiscent of the Industrial Revolution, with exposed brick and a simple black and white color scheme throughout. Old articles and photographs showcasing the newspaper business deck out the walls, so visitors get a dose of history alongside their piece of pie.

The Menu

While browsing the restaurant’s menu, the unique names of the signature pizzas caught my eye. You can choose something simple like “The Daily,” which includes just one topping, or go for something more involved like “The Chronicle,” which comes with artichoke hearts, mushrooms, and bell peppers, to name just a few ingredients.

You can also “publish” your own pizza—or pasta or salad—by choosing from a number of different sauces, cheeses, and fresh toppings. I recommend getting the pink sauce as your base. It’s a combination of the white and red sauces, so you can enjoy the best of both worlds for your meal.

The Pizza Press also offers craft beers and wines on tap, and their list is constantly rotating to incorporate more options, so you can enjoy different brews with each visit.

Hamlin Town Center

The Pizza Press is located inside Hamlin Town Center, one of the villages of Horizon West, and many homes, shops, and entertainment venues are within walking distance. If you live nearby, the Pizza Press is a great place to stop and pick up dinner.

And, if you want to turn pizza night into date night, head to the Cinepolis Theater for the classic combo of dinner and a movie. Finish off with frozen custard from Abbott’s (located next door to the Pizza Press) and your evening is set.

Overall

Whether you’re craving pizza for a quick dinner or as part of a fun night out, the Pizza Press satisfies. And, if you check it out, take a drive through the rest of the area. You never know, Hamlin Town Center could be a place you call home one day!
