The Wellborn

By Yasmene Warren

In search of hot Caribbean flavors with a touch of Florida? Well, this place promises “a taste of vacation,” and it’s called The Wellborn.

All About The Wellborn

The Wellborn is a restaurant and patio bar located in Downtown Orlando on North Lucerne Circle.

In addition to being a popular place to grab a bite to eat, The Wellborn is also a hotel! For those looking to stay near the Lake Cherokee Historic District, consider booking your stay with Sonder Hotel.

Even if you’re not looking for a place to lay your head, The Wellborn has much space in its well-hidden courtyard for you to kick it with friends and family and have a drink. The restaurant and bar is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m., Fridays from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What’s On the Menu?

The Wellborn offers small bites in addition to a unique drink menu. On the weekend, this restaurant offers a brunch menu that consists of small plates such as smashburger sliders, corn beignets, and short rib empanadas. You can also satisfy your sweet tooth with desserts like key lime pie, guava cheesecake, and a fudge brownie.

Cool down with The Wellborn’s popular cocktails like “best friends,” which is made with purple gin, vanilla, lavender and lemon. There are also seasonal cocktails like “green with envy” made with tequila, lemongrass shochu, velvet falernum, lime, pineapple, and fresh cucumber.

If you’re not looking for something seasonal, then The Wellborn also has plenty of house cocktails you can order on the regular, such as an espresso martini, a Wellborn old fashioned, free puppies, which is made with tequila, jalapeño, lime and grapefruit soda, the lone ranger, which consists of tequila, lemon, and sparkling rosé, and plenty more.

There are also non-Wellborn cocktails like the bloodymary, long island iced tea, manhattan, moscow mule and more. Although this is a bar, if you’re not looking to get tipsy, there are non-alcoholic fountain drinks, as well as mocktails to choose from!

The Ambiance

As you happen upon the unsuspecting establishment that is The Wellborn, you’ll instantly be transported to what feels and looks like a whole new world. If you see a small, pink hotel, you’re in the right spot! You can enter from the front or the back; just follow the signs around the building. The pathway is lined with ample plantlife such as flowers, cacti, aloe and more, as well as small statues and mirrors tucked away for added decor!

Once you’ve passed the string light-wrapped trees and start to see table umbrellas, you’ve arrived at The Wellborn! The courtyard is littered with chairs and tables to dine at, and there’s even a walk-up cocktail truck to order drinks from!

If the weather’s got you beat, there are also a few tables indoors where you’ll find card games, chandeliers, and even a piano! You’ll feel like you’re sitting in someone’s home dining at The Wellborn!

Overall

The Wellborn poses as a home away from home, and it truly does promise that taste of vacation with its dishes. Even better, the location looks like a vacation too! Whether you’re here for a bite or a place to rest, you won’t be disappointed with your visit at The Wellborn!
