Walt Disney World Railroad Delayed Until 2022

Whenever you first walk up to Magic Kingdom, before even entering the park, you are greeted with a beautiful train station up on the hill. Guests have dubbed the Walt Disney World Railroad a fan favorite since it opened with Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.

Walt Disney World Railroad

Walt Disney was a huge train enthusiast and wanted to integrate his love of trains into his parks. There are four restored, vintage steam trains that guests can ride on that were built between 1916 and 1928. The trains take you on a nice and relaxing 20-minute ride around the park. The entire length of the train tracks is 1.5 miles roundtrip. There are three stations that guests may embark or disembark from. The Main Street USA Station, The Frontierland Station and the Fantasyland Station.

TRON Lightcycle Run

The train station closed in December of 2018 when construction for Tron: Lightcycle Run began. The TRON ride was supposed to have an opening date of 2021 in time for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World but due to the global pandemic, it was no longer possible. The TRON Lightcycle Run has an opening date sometime in 2022 if all goes according to plan. The Walt Disney World Railroad keeps getting its reopening date pushed back further and further due to TRON being unfinis.

When Will WDW Railroad Reopen?

As of right now, there is no official reopening date for the Walt Disney World Railroad. While we all long for a nice, relaxing train ride around Magic Kingdom again, we will have to wait a little longer. AT this point, the train station has been closed for nearly three years. According to the Walt Disney World website, the refurbishment calendar shows that the beloved attraction will remain closed until at least 2022. Recently, the scaffolding on the Main Street Train Station was removed, giving guests hope that it would have a reopening date in the near future!
