Community Spotlight: Winter Garden

Location and History

Located a short twenty minute drive west of downtown Orlando lies Winter Garden. Admired by many for it’s small town feel, Winter Garden is quickly becoming one of the most sought out areas in all of Central Florida.

Like most towns surrounding Orlando, Winter Garden was originally established in the early 1900’s and thrived off of citrus farming. Fast forward to 2021, it’s close proximity to both the Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Studios makes it the perfect place for anyone seeking small town charm with big city benefits. If theme parks aren’t for you, the 22.6 mile paved running and biking West Orange Trail is a nature lovers paradise. Take in the sights and sounds of the Florida wildlife as you make your way from downtown Winter Garden through the Oakland Nature Preserve and on to neighboring Clermont. If you decide to try out the trail, consider stopping by the Winter Garden Farmers Market that takes place every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Things To Do

After a long day of soaking up the warm Florida sunshine in the theme parks or on the West Orange Trail, make your way over to downtown Winter Garden to round out the day. This is where you’ll find a variety of shops and restaurants that everyone is sure to love. Boutiques such as Adjectives Market and Doxology cater to anyone looking for home decor or clothing, along with many others. Just down the road inside the Plant Street Market lives over 20 local vendors including Crooked Can Brewery, gourmet macaroni and cheese stand, Mac’d Out and the newest addition (and local Orlando favorite) Hunger Street Tacos. With all of that shopping and eating, how about a drink for the adults or a warm cup of coffee to end the night? The Whole Enchilada boasts the best rooftop bar in town while just across the street lies Axum Coffee.

A Short Drive Away

With so much to see and do in Winter Garden you’re unlikely to want to venture too far. But on the off chance that you’re looking for more than what with what Central Florida has to offer, you’re in luck! Cocoa Beach (74 mi.), Clearwater Beach (108 mi.) and Palm Beach (175 mi.) are all a quick and scenic drive down Florida’s gorgeous highways. On days where the Florida heat may make the beach sound unbearable, the Kennedy Space Center, Clearwater Marine Aquarium (home of Winter the dolphin) and Ocala National Forest’s many springs and trails are a short drive away! There is no shortage of family fun and new experiences in the area.

Pricing and Schools

It’s easy to see why Winter Garden is an attractive place to live for locals and those looking to become one. The average home price lies somewhere between $400,000- $500,000 but can easily exceed $1 million depending on your preferences. “A” rated public schools are an added benefit for families with children that are looking to be in a good school district. As a matter of fact, families with young children make up a large percentage of the Winter Garden population! Singles, young adults and seniors are also happy to call Winter Garden home and enjoy taking advantage of the benefits that it has to offer.
