Brightline Train Connecting Orlando and Tampa Slated for 2028

Train Travel Incoming!

Get ready to Travel by train from Tampa to Orlando and down to Miami in a flash with Brightline!

Brightline has just confirmed phase 3 of their multi phase project to bring high speed train travel to Florida. In early 2018, phase 1 was completed, and Brightline trains began serving travelers in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach. Phase 2 will be completed in 2022, adding an extension that connects the Orlando International Airport to the current west palm beach location.

Phases & Speeds

Currently the phase 1 and 2 tracks are shared with freight trains, meaning the travel speeds are much lower due to shared tracks. With the Phase 3 expansion, we will see a high speed line added that connects Orlando International Airport, Disney, Lakeland, and Tampa all to the existing lines. The High speed lines allow for 125 mph travel from Tampa to Orlando, making it much faster than the 79 mph max in Miami and West Palm Beach.

Orlando Tampa Mega Region

This is all very exciting and solidifies even more the Orlando to Tampa mega region we’ve been talking about. As the Orlando market grows further west, and the Tampa market grows further east, Orlando and Tampa are connecting more and more. The new Brightline train will only make it easier to travel between the two cities.

Timing

This is all great news but you’ll have to wait a bit for the completion of phase 3. This phase will begin construction in 2025 with a completion date slated for July 1st 2028. This announcement will definitely affect the market in the coming years, making it easier to travel from Orlando to Tampa for daily commutes.

What are your thoughts on the new train? Would you use it? Let us know in the comments.
