Celebrate the Season in Christmas, FL

by Marissa Potts

Nestled into the western part of Central Florida sits a town even Santa would be proud to call home - Christmas, Florida! Just like its namesake, here you can find Christmas decor all year long, historical sites, and streets named after the holiday season.

History

The history of the town dates back to, well, Christmas! Army soldiers arrived on December 25, 1837 and started construction on a fort which was used during the Second Seminole War. They named the fort Fort Christmas after the day on which they had arrived.

A post office was opened in 1892, and the rest was history! The town is mentioned in the book Paper Towns by John Green and sculptor James Hughlette “Tex” Wheeler was raised and buried here.

What to Do

Christmas is home to lots of farmland, so even the drive is fun! I loved looking at the goats, cows, and horses all throughout the city. You can also visit the infamous Fort Christmas, where there are now several playgrounds and pioneer houses to enjoy while you are there. Christmas is also home to the world’s largest alligator-shaped building at Jungle Adventures. Here you can partake in wildlife encounters with Florida animals like Florida Panthers and reptiles as well as a Jungle Swamp Cruise!

Celebrating the Season

If you’re visiting this time of year and are looking for fun holiday activities, here are a few festive things you can do in Christmas! There are several decorations that you can take photos with, including a huge tree and nativity scene outside of their church. I personally loved the Post Office, there were really cute decorations outside and the office itself was super vintage looking!

Another stop I took was the Christmas Grocery, also with a cute sign outside and food and snacks inside.

Personally, I really liked looking at all of the street names, some of which were themed for Christmas like Blitzen Avenue and St Nicholas Avenue.

Overall

Can you believe that there is an entire town in Central Florida named after this time of year?! I had so much fun exploring all around this city full of history and checking out all of the nature and wildlife nearby! For some reason though, I couldn’t find any reindeer!

Christmas, FL

Christmas Florida is the perfect spot for families looking for properties that have plenty of land. Beautiful homes are situated on huge lots, and many people use them for farmland and for farm animals. Interested in homes in Christmas?
