Comic Controllers

Comic Controllers in Clermont, Florida will be sure to make you feel like you traveled back to the 90’s. Lovers of nostalgia and video games alike unite for tasty treats, comfy areas to game in, and a gift shop full of familiar characters and games.

Jessie and Alex, a husband and wife duo, founded Comic Controllers, and opened their newest shop within the past year. Their goal is to make each gaming system and controller unique to the gamer. They also serve up ice cream soda floats and pretzel creations at the front half of their store, in the Pop Culture Soda Shoppe.

In the back half of the store is Comic Controllers, filled with comfy sofas and chairs to game in. There are also computers, televisions, and arcade games which are free to play. This is such a fun place to go and spend time with your friends, while playing a game of Mario Kart or two. Next to Comic Controllers was a small pop up shop when we visited. It was filled with so many cool items like artist prints, and used video games to bring home. If you’re a local artist and creator, you can open your own pop up shop at this location for the day!

Soda Floats and Nostalgia

If you get thirsty after some long gaming, check out the Pop Culture Soda Shoppe. It is at the front half of the store and features nostalgic decorations among the shelves behind the bar. The menu here is so cool, showcasing ice cream soda floats designed after some of your favorite characters. Some include the Central Florida classic Lil Orange Bird, the Shrek’s Swamp, or the Dream Drink inspired by Barbie!

I had the pleasure of chatting with one of the owners, Alex, when I visited. He said that each of the flavors are so unique that it’s hard to choose a favorite! Along with these ice cream creations, the shop also serves up cookies with flavors like red velvet and s’mores, and pretzels with fun flavors like the Colonel Mustard and Everything is Awesome. Personally, I went for the Ninja Turtle which was a garlic parmesan pretzel, served with a side of marinara sauce, and oh my goodness it was so good!
