History

Apopka was founded in 1882 as the “Town of Apopka City” and it’s known primarily for its large number of greenhouses. It’s often referred to as the “Indoor Foliage Capital of the World” because of this. Many of these greenhouses are still scattered throughout the area. Apopka comes from Seminole word Ahapopka for “Potato eating place”.

Nature

Apopka is littered with beautiful spaces in nature. Just west is lake apopka, the fourth largest lake in the state of Florida. It cover an area of just over 48 mi². Just east is Kelly Park and Kings Landing, 27000 acres of nature with over 500 miles of walking/running paths. You can also go checking Rock Springs and enjoy the true beauty of Florida.

Apopka is full of homes with a wide variety of older suburbs and new construction. It’s continuing to grow with tons of new construction scattered throughout the area. The average prices in the area end up in the $350K – $375K range making it a more affordable option in the area.

For years now there have been attempts to add chain stores and restaurants to the area but Apopka has pushed back. There have been multiple moritoriams on these chain locations to hold off and create culture in the area. With the immense growth the area is seeing, it’s only a matter of time before we see more local spots coming in to bring culture to the area.
