Cows ‘n Cabs: A recipe for fundraising success

By Jim Carchidi

Central Florida’s hospitality community has a generous side that shines with events like Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining and Appetite for the Arches. The community will be served by another yearly celebration of food and fundraising when Cows ‘n Cabs returns to downtown Winter Park, November 13 and 15.

Beginnings

The event was inspired 13 years ago by a passion for giving back, shared by 4R Restaurant Group founder, John Rivers, and ABC Fine Wine & Spirits Vice President, Dave Larue. The name is a nod to BBQ (cows) and fine wine (cabernet). Rivers and Larue combined their resources and industry contacts to help create a landmark, one-night ticketed event that now spans more than 50 restaurants and 90 beverage providers. And 100% of event proceeds benefit nonprofits that help children in need.

John Rivers of 4 Rivers Smokehouse is a co founder of Cows n Cabs.

Local favorites Cholo Dogs, Hangry Bison and Hawkers have participated in Cows 'n Cabs.

Cholo Dogs, Hangry Bison and Hawkers Asian Street Fare have been among Cows 'n Cabs' participating restaurants for several years.

The event takes place in Winter Park at Central Park West Meadow. A giant tent houses multiple food stations, bars, and two event stages with bands playing throughout the evening. Additional serving areas, lounges, and accommodations surround the tented area.

Firsts

Cows ‘n Cabs 2023 broke the $1 million mark for a single evening event and the 2024 installment debuted a two-night schedule with an exclusive pre-party, dubbed "Burgers, Beer & Bubbles." This year, Cows ‘n Cabs will kick off on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. with "Tacos ‘n Tequila."

Presented by Marcado 28 tequila and the Moye, O’Brien law firm, "Tacos ‘n Tequila" will be limited to 250 tickets and hosted by celebrity chefs, Bryan and Michael Voltaggio, with a selection of tacos, handcrafted tequila cocktails, and live music. The Cows ‘n Cabs main event will happen on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. with early admission available via one of two VIP ticket packages.

This year's list of nonprofit partners includes 4Roots Foundation, After-School All-Stars Orlando, Winter Park Day Nursery. Additional organizations will be added in the coming weeks.
