‘Tis the season for all things ominous and spooky! What better way to celebrate than to go to Universal and see what happens when darkness falls on Hogwarts Castle. During the Halloween season, you can expect to see the Dark Arts throughout Hogwarts with Dementors, Death Eaters, and more lurking around every corner.
Hogwarts Castle Show
Once the sun goes down in Hogsmeade, chaos erupts! Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle is a fan favorite show that uses projections, pyrotechnics, and fireworks to tell a spellbinding tale of good vs evil. As the show begins, a slow, ominous mist rolls in and covers the majestic castle. Once the mist starts to fade, the towers show Borgin and Burkes, the infamous shop in Knockturn Alley that is home to objects that contain dark arts. Skulls then start piling around it and one falls and breaks a window which releases darkness. The castle is then covered in spiderwebs. A large Acromantula (and several smaller Acromantulas) climb all over Hogwarts before disappearing into the dark sky. Hogwarts then becomes completely wrapped in Devil’s Snare and starts to flood. Then begins the fight of good vs. evil! It is an amazing show, and I don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t seen it. It is a must see for all guests, whether you’re a huge Harry Potter fan or not. The show appears regularly throughout the night from dusk until park close during select nights.
Death Eaters & Dementors
One of the highlights of Dark Arts returning is the Death Eaters and Dementors. They get up close and personal with guests and perform their dark magic throughout Hogsmeade. The Death Eaters will randomly select certain guests to intimidate and possibly even duel with (so be sure to have your wand handy)! The Death Eaters are spooky looking, just as described in the books and movies. They have metallic masks and long black robes. Be on the lookout when walking through Hogsmeade at night, you never know when one of them will be lurking.

Overall
If you are a fan of Harry Potter and spooky things, you will absolutely love the Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle and the Death Eaters wandering around. It may be a little intense for small children, so be sure to keep that in mind if you are visiting during this time. In an already incredibly immersive Hogsmeade, having the Death Eaters lurking around makes it feel even more real. Dueling with the Death Eaters is a must do and I highly recommend it. Be sure to go see the Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle Show before the Halloween season is over!
