Do the New I-4 Express Lanes Help Disney Traffic?

It seems like the roads are always very congested in the morning when the parks open, and at night after the parks close. Traffic is imminent if you happen to be on the road during any of these peak times. Recently, the construction on the Interstate was completed and it revealed the new I-4 Express Lanes. These can be utilized to avoid traffic during peak times for just a small fee. The question is, does it help the Disney traffic at all?

I-4 Opens New Lanes

Interstate 4 (I-4) just opened new express lanes going eastbound and westbound. If you take this way to Walt Disney World, this is good news for you because now you are less likely to have to sit in bumper-to-bumper Disney traffic. The express lanes have been under construction for years and officially opened in

Managed Lanes

Motorists now have the choice to stay in the non-tolled General-Use Lanes, or they can use the tolled Managed Lanes (Express). These lanes start in Orange County and go up into Seminole County. The I-4 Express Lanes are part of the “I-4 Ultimate Project” which is a 21-mile reconstruction of the interstate. The introductory rate for the tolls starts as low as .50 cents per trip. Also, during the introductory rate, if you were to drive the entire length of I-4, it would cost you $3.50 to go eastbound and $3.00 to go westbound.

Will It Help Disney Traffic?

The new lanes will absolutely help with the traffic, whether you’re coming from North or South of Disney. They open the lanes up and help keep traffic moving, and it helps clear the congestion on this busy Interstate. On the average day, Disney traffic can cause a driver to be stuck anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. The tolls are taken electronically from your SunPass, which is another added benefit to this system, making it more efficient for drivers to use. The other accepted forms of payment include the Sunpass equivalent for surrounding states – NC Quick Pass, Peach Pass, Leeway, and more.

Overall

This is great news for locals and tourists alike! Anything that helps clear the traffic to help get to Disney World faster and with less stress is always a win! Do you take I-4 to get to Walt Disney World? Are you more likely to use the new I-4 Express Lanes or will you stick with the general-use lanes?
