Galaxy’s Edge Must Do’s

Are you ready for some out of this world fun? Come to this galaxy that’s far, far away and immerse yourself in Galaxy’s Edge aka Star Wars Land. Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to be a huge Star Wars fan to enjoy this land. There are so many fun things to do for everyone in your party. Here are ten things you must do while visiting Galaxy’s Edge.

1. Ride Smugglers Run

Every Star Wars fan dreams of being able to pilot the “fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy”- the Millennium Falcon. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is one of two rides available at Galaxy’s Edge. Once you’re on-board, you will be assigned one of three roles: pilot, gunner or flight-engineer. Each of these roles have different responsibilities and tasks throughout the flight and how each of you perform together as a team, will affect your mission. The most fun role to have (in my opinion) is the pilot. This ride is a lot of fun and the best way to describe it is a mixture between Star Tours and Mission Space.

2. Build Your Own Lightsaber

Have you ever wanted your very own customized lightsaber? Head over to Savi’s Workshop where you can build your own customized lightsaber and continue the ways of the Force. First, you will meet one of Savi’s Gatherers outside the workshop and you’ll choose one of four available hilt themes, and you’ll receive a cloisonne pin to identify your choice. The four themes are: Peace and Justice, Power and Control, Elemental Nature, and Protection and Defense. You will then choose the “heart” of your lightsaber-the kyber crystal- which is available in red, green, blue or violet. Next, you receive a box of parts to begin assembling your hilt. According to the Disney website, parts will be provided based on your theme and cloisonne pin. Finally, you will complete your 31” lightsaber blade and you’ll be ready to take on the galaxy! Each lightsaber is $219.99, plus tax and you will receive one lightsaber per builder per experience. Each builder may bring one guest into the workshop (aged 14 or older). Unfortunately, guests of the builder will not be able to build a lightsaber. It is also important to note that custom lightsabers are nonrefundable and are not eligible for discounts. Advanced reservations are highly recommended as this is a very popular experience. While it seems very expensive, it is truly an unforgettable experience.

3. Ride Rise of the Resistance

Join the Resistance to fight the First Order in this incredibly immersive and amazing ride. This is one of the best-if not the best- ride that Disney has to offer. I don’t want to give away anything about this ride or spoil it because it is an experience that will blow your mind. All I will say is that this ride has incredible theming and is the most immersive ride and experience at any of the Disney parks. Guests will find themselves in an intense altercation between the Resistance and the First Order. Rise of the Resistance is a trackless ride and is filled with thrills and excitement from start to finish. It is a multiple ride system and I guarantee it will be unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before. Virtual Queue for this ride is currently paused so the only option is to use the stand-by line or pay for Individual Attraction Selection (Priced at $15 per ride). Pro Tip: Rope Drop Hollywood Studios and head right to Galaxy’s Edge to get in line for Rise of the Resistance. The wait times for this ride stay extremely long throughout the day.

4. Have a Drink at Oga’s Cantina

Oga’s Cantina is the place to be at Galaxy’s Edge! Much like the Mos Eisley Cantina, this is a place where bounty hunters, smugglers, rogue traders and weary travelers of all ages can come together for a bite to eat or drink! One of the coolest things about Oga’s Cantina (especially for Disney fans) is that you may recognize a familiar face once you enter. That’s right, DJ R-3X (former pilot on the Starspeeder 3000 from Star Tours) has gone from pilot to performer! Oga’s specializes in exotic drinks from around the galaxy! Perhaps the strangest (yet very popular drink) to order here is the Fuzzy Ton Ton. Warning- this drink will actually make your tongue feel numb! There is a two-drink maximum per guest. Also, due to high popularity and limited space, advanced reservations are highly recommended. Guests are also limited to stay 45 minutes per party once inside.

5. Build Your Own Droid

If you’ve ever wanted to own a droid like R2-D2 or BB-8, this is the experience for you! As we all know, droids are the most loyal and dependable sidekicks! First, head over to Black Spire Outpost’s Droid Depot. Next, you will have to register your choice of a BB-series unit or an R-series unit and from there, you’ll receive a basket and blueprint for parts. You will then choose from a variety of colorful components as they roll by on a conveyor belt. Follow the instructions that are given to you on how to create your perfect droid. Once completed, your droid is paired with a remote control and activated! Each droid is $99 plus tax. There are personality chips for the droids available for an additional fee. Just like with the lightsaber experience, the builder can bring in one guest 14 years or older, but they will not be able to build their own droid. Guests may carry their droids around Galaxy’s Edge to have them interact with the land. These droids will also work on the new Galactic Starcruiser!

6. Meet Your Favorite Characters

Many of your favorite Star Wars characters can be seen throughout the day all over Galaxy’s Edge. You will see heroes like Chewbacca, Rey and other friends of the Resistance. You will also see characters from the First Order like Supreme Leader Kylo Ren and the Stormtroopers. Occasionally, Darth Vader will make an appearance. It is a lot of fun interacting with these characters, even the “not-so-good” guys. Stormtroopers love to stop people to ask questions and look for the rebels! Due to social distancing and covid protocols, you are able to interact with the characters at a distance and take photos. It’ll be exciting when meet and greets fully return to be able to hug Chewbacca again!

7. Try the Blue (or Green) Milk

Galaxy’s Edge has many interesting food and drink options but one of the most popular is the blue or green milk. Star Wars fans have been wondering what Blue Milk tastes like ever since we saw Luke Skywalker drinking it in A New Hope. Luckily, now we can all try it! Blue and Green Milk is available at The Milk Stand in Black Spire Outpost. Both the Blue and Green Milk are a blend of coconut and rice milk and they non-dairy so everyone can enjoy it! The Blue Milk has a stronger berry/melon flavor, and the Green Milk has a more lemon-citrus flavor. Some people like to mix them both together for an even more unique flavor! They have the consistency of a slushie and are pretty refreshing!

8. Go to Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities

Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities is one of the best places to shop in Galaxy’s Edge. You can find everything here from apparel and accessories, to collectibles, houseware, toys and plush. There are also many unique and mysterious items here as well such as replicas of famous lightsabers, Holocron cubes and even Sith busts! Dok-Ondar himself sits and overlooks the store to make sure everything is going smoothly. Dok-Ondar (for those who are wondering) is a character from the Star Wars universe who is a legendary antiques dealer.

9. “Hack” into the Datapad

Hacking into the Datapad is a family-friendly and fun thing to do while walking around and exploring or while waiting in line. Once you enter Galaxy’s Edge, simply open your Play Disney Parks app to “hack” into the Star Wars: Datapad. Before you do anything, you must decide who you will pledge your loyalty to, the Resistance or the First Order. With this app, you can scan the items that are hidden inside of containers, tune into communications and transmissions happening throughout the land, translate languages and much more! You can also hack into droids to bring them to life and door panels to unlock additional stories. You’re also able to interact with devices, control panels and more. Guests can even take on jobs to help residents of the outpost. With every job you complete, you will collect digital rewards such as star maps, ship schematics, galactic credits and more!
