I’m in Heaven
Looking for a no frills, authentic Chicago Dog joint right in the middle of Orlando. You’re looking for Hot Dog Heaven. This spot brings the Chicago hot dog joint feel to the Orlando Area. Let’s take a bite out of Hot Dog Heaven and dive deeper into the history and vibe of this spot.
Beginnings
Hot Dog Heaven opened its doors in October of 1987 in a small 500 square foot spot in Central Florida. Word spread fast and this spot started having lines out the door in no time! They have since expanded into a spot down E Colonial Dr, about 10 minutes from downtown. Since the expansion, they’ve been serving up dogs with lines out the door for years. If you head to Hot Dog heaven during lunch, expect to wait if you don’t get there at opening. The lines can get very long but it’s well worth the wait.
What’s a Chicago Dog?
If you’ve never had a Chicago Dog, not only are you insane, you haven’t lived. It’s a dog topped with mustard, relish, onion, tomato, pickle, and hot peppers, cradled in between a delicious steamed poppy seed bun. The Chicago Dog dates back all the way to the Great Depression in the 1930’s. It was the meal of the working class and was said to have originated by the name of the “Depression Sandwich”.
Menu
The menu consists of exactly what you’d expect. The have an assortment of over 20 dogs that come in regular or jumbo. Each basket comes with fries and your choice of Cole Slaw, Mac Salad, and Baked Beans. My personal favorite is the Mac Salad for sure. They also have Pizza Puffs, a delicious pastry stuffed with Cheese and sauce. They’re similar to a hot pocket but with a crunchy fried exterior. You can also grab a shake or ice cream from 8 flavors.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Hot Dog Heaven is a must see spot in Orlando. Lines are out the door, the flavors are top notch, and there’s nothing to complain about. Take a seat outside or sit down by the lake and dig into a hot dog!
