Lake Nona

There are a lot of great places to live in and around central Florida, but one of the fastest growing at the moment is Lake Nona. Located just minutes from Orlando’s main airport and only 23 miles from downtown, Lake Nona has seen a huge increase in demand over the last few years. What’s to love about this newly developed area? Read below to find out.

Nicknamed “medical city” for its various research facilities and state of the art hospitals, Lake Nona was developed by the Tavistock Group to mock a community centered around the University of San Diego’s Research Park. It is now home to the UCF College of Medicine, University of Florida Research and Academic Center, Nemours Children’s Hospital and the VA Medical Center. Medical facilities may dominate the current landscape, but in July 2021 Disney announced that they would be relocating over 2,000 jobs to a new campus rumored to be breaking ground in September. Johnson & Johnson, Siemens and more notable corporations also call Lake Nona home.

Though the area is currently a mecca for growing corporations, local businesses such as Foxtail Coffee Co. and Boxi Park are keeping the area true to Orlando’s trendy culture. Boxi Park is an outdoor style eatery that features restaurants and bars located inside of shipping containers and centered around an outdoor stage that often provides live entertainment. Right up the street in the Laureate Park Village Center is another fan favorite, Canvas Restaurant and Market. Here is where they serve award winning cuisine that focuses on seasonal, regional produce and ingredients. If you’re looking for a post meal pick-me-up, grab a warm drink at the coffee bar located in the lobby on your way out!

A massive benefit to Lake Nona’s convenient location on the FL 417 is it’s distance to a variety of Orlando’s best attractions. The Disney parks are a quick 20 minute drive while Universal Studios is only 24 minutes. If you’re feeling the call to soak up the Florida sun beachside, Cocoa Beach and Florida’s east coast are less than an hour away and are waiting to be explored!  With the coast being in such close proximity, a look up into the sky on any given night may give you a glimpse of a rocket being launched into space from the Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island. If you were looking for an easy and educational day trip for the family, the space center is also less than an hour away and sure to be a hit for the whole family.

With so much talk of family adventure, Lake Nona is ideal for families of all sizes. Young professionals and retirees are also among those that are happy to call Lake Nona home, but families make up over ¾ of Lake Nona residents. While not the only community in the area, Laureate Park is one of the most coveted for its planned layout and proximity to the town center. It features bungalows, townhomes and multi-level homes and is located nearby top rated schools. Along with Laureate Park, the ever expanding Eagle Creek community is also prime real estate for those looking for a country club style community situated on a 4.5 star championship golf course, rated by Golf Digest.
