Oh, What Fun! Festival in Lake Nona

by Kismet Kohn

In the center of Lake Nona lies a little piece of the North Pole when the Christmas season begins! Every holiday season, Lake Nona puts on Oh, What Fun!, a free holiday festival filled with activities, food, drinks, entertainment, and a holiday market. As if that isn’t enough to entice you, right down the street there’s a Christmas tree farm where you can pick out your perfect tree. Oh, What Fun! occurs every day from December 7th to December 24th, and every weekend features a different special event the whole family can participate in!

Christmas in Florida

Oh, What Fun! is the perfect event to go to if you’re craving that winter atmosphere that’s usually difficult to get in Florida. With fake snow, dazzling lights, and Santa right around the corner, this event gets you into the holiday spirit instantly.

Activities

Every day between December 7th and December 24th offers Santa’s Cottage, activities for the kids and family, a way to send letters to Santa, and a trail of Christmas trees the whole family can vote on! At Santa’s Cottage, children can meet Santa and Mrs. Clause at their Florida house, Peppermint Square. The Clauses will offer storytimes and singalongs that are perfect for the family.

Every weekend there is a different activity for families to participate in, one weekend offers a pet parade, and another is a Florida version of a snow weekend!

Food and Drinks

You can’t forget to stop and grab some sweet treats! They serve holiday-themed cookies, macarons, cupcakes, paninis, cookie dough, and, of course, hot chocolate. It’s really impossible to go wrong when choosing a dessert. The adults can get their own hot chocolate by stopping at the Lake Nona Wave Hotel Sculpture Garden Fa La La Bar. They serve seasonal cocktails and spiked hot chocolate in a holiday atmosphere.

Market and Trees

The Holiday Market Way occurs at the same time as the festival, with vendors lining the path prepared to help the last-minute gift buyer. Some vendors sell jewelry and others sell ornaments, no matter what you can find something for a loved one!

Right down the street from the festival is the Peppermint Forest, a Christmas tree lot that offers tree valet and home delivery so you can continue to enjoy the festival after you pick up your perfect tree.

Entertainment

Two weekends out of the holiday season, the festival offers movie nights where families can cuddle up outside and enjoy a classic holiday movie. Thursdays offer live musical performances and Fridays offer live acrobatics shows. Every night you can stop and see Peppermint the Penguin as well! On December 18th there is a Hanukkah celebration featuring a festival of lights, menorah lighting, themed entertainment, dreidel making, and kosher food!

Overall

If you live anywhere in the Orlando area, make a trip to this festival! It’s enjoyable for adults and children alike and will immediately get you into the holiday spirit. Lake Nona is a beautiful area even without the festival, growing fast and featuring beautiful homes and architecture.
