Revenge of the Mummy Ride Closure

Universal Orlando announced back in October 2021 that the Revenge of the Mummy ride would close on January 7, 2022, for a lengthy refurbishment. We now know that it will not be open until Summer 2022. The ride has seen many refurbishments since it opened in 2004 but has remained largely unchanged. There is a lot of speculation as to what will change when the ride reopens this summer.

The Ride

The Revenge of the Mummy ride is based on a popular movie franchise starring Brendan Frasier. The movie series consisted of three films and were released between 1998 and 2008. The ride is located in the New York City area of Universal Studios in Orlando. It replaced Kongfrontation, an opening day attraction. The thrilling coaster is a dark ride that reaches a top speed of 45 mph and lasts about three minutes. The ride has stayed the same since it debuted at the park in 2004.

Universal filed permits to change parts of the ride. The ride is very dated and is due for a huge update. The permits filed indicate that there will be changes to the control and electrical systems and to the queue and courtyard. Many sites and fans of the ride also have speculated that the scenes featuring Brendan Frasier will be taken out and replaced with something else. The movie franchise hasn’t released a new film since 2008, which is now 14 years ago, so it is due for a change.

Future of the Ride

With Shrek 4D closing its doors permanently on January 10, 2022, many people are wondering if the Revenge of the Mummy ride would suffer the same fate. From what we know right now, the ride will be returning- but with some big changes. It will be nice to see this ride be updated after all these years. It will be very interesting to see what the ride will be like after this lengthy refurbishment. Have you ever been on the Revenge of the Mummy ride? What are your thoughts?
