Smoke & Donuts BBQ in the Milk District

By Cassady Quintana

In the heart of Orlando's Milk District, Smoke & Donuts stands out as a unique culinary experience that marries two seemingly disparate worlds—barbecue and donuts. Founded by a husband and wife duo Ian Russell and Juliana Peña, the food truck turned brick and mortar embodies a blend of their individual passions—his for savory, slow-smoked barbecue, and hers for the sweet, nostalgic allure of freshly made donuts. Let’s check it out!

Sweet and Smoky Eats

The menu reflects the marriage between the savory and the sweet. The barbecue selections show a commitment to traditional smoking techniques. Choose from classics like pulled pork, prime brisket, and turkey breast or dive into unique options like the Bar-B-Cuban or the Chopped Brisket-Donut Slider.

The donut creations feature innovative flavors and toppings that elevate the classic treat to new heights. Try out the Salty Englishmen (Maker’s bourbon & maple glaze heath, sea salt), the Big Bopper (chantilly cream cheese, strawberry jam, smoked sea salt), or the Blonde Blueberry (vanilla glaze, oat streusel, compote, blueberry-swirl blonde). But make sure to get them early as they are known to sell out!

Grab a fountain drink or add on a craft cocktail, a small-production beer (all brewed in Florida), or an espresso from the bar.

The golden-fried fritters are drizzled with hot honey and are a perfect blend of sweetness and heat. The Alabama Chicken Sandwich is paired with slaw, pickles, onions, and then generously slathered in Alabama barbecue sauce. The combination of smoky barbecue notes and the crisp, fresh elements make this sandwich a deliciously messy bite. The Mac & Cheese features a rich blend of cheddar, Swiss, chihuahua, and cotija cheeses, and is enhanced by the subtle bitterness of lager.

The Atmosphere

Transporting customers into a nostalgic journey reminiscent of the 60s and 70s, the interior demonstrates a tasteful throwback vibe in its decor that strikes the perfect balance. The ambiance channels the groovy and retro spirit of the past without overwhelming the senses. Sit inside or at the outside patio and enjoy!
