By Kismet Kohn
The Heavy is located in Downtown Winter Park and is home to beautiful plants, flowers, home decor, and more! The hours vary depending on the day and if they have events going on inside but most days you can stop in anytime between 10 AM and 6 PM.
The Greenery
The Heavy has a wide variety of plants available for customers to buy, ranging from a small succulent to a massive monstera. There are some plants available year-round but the best kinds tend to be seasonal. In the spring and summer, they offer carnivorous plants, including venus fly traps which are the perfect house plants for Floridians! If you don’t want to worry about the upkeep of your plants there is an entire outdoor section featuring succulents and cacti that will thrive even if you tend to be like me and have the opposite of a green thumb.
Flower Bar
They just reopened their flower bar for the first time since Covid hit and it’s beautiful! You can choose stems from a variety of flowers they have, which are all available to craft your own bouquet for your loved one. If you’re in a rush, they have pre-made bouquets available as well that are just as nice. The Heavy also offers dried flowers if you want a long lasting bouquet to pull your interior design together!
Home Decor
The pots are my personal favorite part of The Heavy. Every month they get new designs to match the colors of the season and there are different designs for every sense of style. You can take your pick from a minimalist pot to a maximalist pot, they have something for everyone! They even offer candles, candle holders, blankets, and more. I highly recommend checking out the window clings they sell. When the clings are put on a window that gets direct sunlight it turns the room into a rainbow of colors. Even these clings are constantly changing so you can go in and buy one every time they get a new design in!
Park Avenue in Winter Park
The Heavy is located just a few blocks away from Park Avenue in what used to be Lombardi’s Seafood.
I think the location is one of the best parts of this store, it creates an open atmosphere that’s welcoming to all customers! Since it’s so close to Park Avenue, there are delicious restaurants and bars that you can stop in once you’re done shopping. Winter Park is known for its beautiful houses and brick roads, making the atmosphere of The Heavy even better.
Overall
If you’re a plant lover I definitely recommend this store and even if you’re not I recommend going just for the vibes of The Heavy. Sometimes they will hold events featuring small businesses where you can go sample wine, take a look at some vintage clothes, or even get permanent jewelry. The Heavy is my favorite Winter Park secret that everyone deserves to experience!
