Treat Your Mom This Mother's Day to The Tea Room Experience

By Kismet Kohn

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than dressing up in your Sunday best for some finger sandwiches and a cup of tea?

The Tea Room

The Tea Room is a classy space where you can dress up, sip tea with your pinky out, and enjoy some delicious bites. However, the fancy atmosphere might be one of my favorite parts of this experience. As soon as you walk in you feel like you’ve traveled to the Queen’s home for afternoon tea.

If you want to feel stylish, or forgot your own, there are hats stationed to the right of the door for you to choose from and wear. The tall ceilings and bright walls make the room feel open and airy, with tea sets lining the back wall. If you see one you like, all of these are for sale. Look up and you’ll see that the chandelier is also repurposed from old tea cups! Colorful teapots on shelves

The friendly staff create such a great experience by encouraging you to try new goodies, and have a great time with your mom, girls, or friends!

Want to enjoy your tea and scones at home or are you throwing your own tea party? They offer “Afternoon Tea To Go”  in the cutest boxes for one ($33), and a smaller portion for children ($24). These include your choice of loose leaf tea, and all of the same food options you’d get dining in. Catering is also available for larger quantities.

*On Mother’s Day, there are special tea boxes for one ($48) or two ($96), only available May 11th to May 13th.

*The Annual Mother’s Day Vintage Tea Time on May 14th is currently sold out. If you’d like to enjoy The Tea Room Experience, please call about their Saturday (or future) openings, or order a tea box to go.

The Teas

Cup of tea

The Tea Room of course offers a wide variety of teas for you to choose from, ranging from White Tea to Black Tea, and everything in between.

The teas are hand-selected by their tea sommelier, and you can tell when you take your first sip. If you’re very specific about the strength of your tea, don’t fret, the waitress brings out a timer with different labels for the different levels. The caffeine levels are noted on the menu, which I found to be very helpful as someone who can’t take too much caffeine.

Something to note, the teas are unlimited for the entire table so you can try as many as you want! I enjoyed the Blue Eyes tea the most, an herbal tea featuring hints of caramel, and this specific one even comes out blue. If you’re not a fan of tea, they offer coffee and different seasonal juices to choose from as well.

Small Bites and More

I ate a full meal before going to the Tea Room Experience, and that was definitely a mistake. Included in the experience are all of the food items for a high tea, with three tiers and two side plates of different snacks and desserts.

You start out with three different types of finger sandwiches, large enough that they might as well be real sandwiches. The second tier includes tiny pastries and fruity snacks, which turned out to be a good refreshing cleanser before heading to the desserts. The desserts were delicious and a good end to a delightful tea experience.

Throughout all of these courses, you also have two plates of snacks to eat from. One plate had amazing biscuits with Devonshire Cream, with the other having more tiny sandwiches to choose from.

Overall

If you love tea, or just love eating tiny finger sandwiches and scones, check out the Tea Room Experience! It’s so much fun for a special occasion, or just a day out on the town, and I would definitely do it again just to get another taste of all the goodies. Reservations can be made anytime in the afternoon and they last about two hours, giving you enough time to enjoy the food, drinks, and ambiance.

Downtown Orlando

The Tea Room Experience is located in Downtown Orlando. It’s off towards the east side of downtown, which I appreciate because it means no dealing with the typical downtown traffic. The area has so much to offer and many restaurants and bars to visit.

If you'd like to get some fresh air after grabbing a cup of tea, take a stroll down to Lake Eola, and maybe even try out the swan boats! Downtown Orlando offers a combination of houses and apartments to choose from. The houses are further from the center of downtown, but still within walking distance of many city amenities and restaurants. If you’re looking for a bit of a smaller space, the apartments are beautiful as well and offer views of the city skyline, one of my favorite views in Central Florida.
