Updated Fantasmic Will Return in 2022!

At the 2021 D23 Expo in Walt Disney World this weekend, a lot of exciting news was announced. One of the most exciting pieces of news is that the beloved nighttime spectacular Fantasmic will be returning in 2022! Live entertainment has slowly been coming back to the parks during the last few months and it seems that now, it’s coming back in a big way!

30th Anniversary

Fantasmic will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2022, so it is great that we will see the show in time to celebrate! Fantasmic has been closed since March of 2020 because of the global pandemic. There have been aerial pictures of a completely drained Fantasmic lagoon which made a lot of fans question whether it would be returning or not.

Updated Show

Disney also announced that when Fantasmic returns, there will be some changes to the show. It will not return as the same show that it once was. They will be replacing an entire segment of the show! According to Disney, it will feature new characters, new animation, stunt performers and much more!

Back to Normal

With the return of Fantasmic, fireworks, stage shows, and modified character meet & greets, it feels like Disney is finally getting back to normal after a hectic two years. Disney will be monitoring health and safety protocols closely to make sure that Fantasmic is brought back in a way that we can all safely enjoy it.

Is there a definite date?

As of right now, there is no exact date as to when we can expect to see Fantasmic make its triumphant return. All we know for sure, is that it will be returning in 2022 in time to celebrate the shows 30th anniversary. At the Parks, Experiences and Products Panel at D23, Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro, filled the room with excitement as he said “As you can all see, we are back. And I promise you there is so much more to come!” We will be sure to keep you posted as soon as we know a definite opening date. Are you excited to see Fantasmic return?
