Community Spotlight: Minneola

By Kismet Kohn

Minneola is a small city located just north of Clermont within Lake County, right off of Lake Minneola. This is one of the many emerging cities within the Central Florida area, with new neighborhoods, beautiful nature trails, and all in a generally more affordable area.

Pricing and History

Minneola became incorporated in 1926, making it almost 100 years since its incorporation! The city itself covers about 12 square miles, and is known for its thriving citrus groves that supply fruits, such as oranges and lemons, throughout the year. Since Minneola is located in the middle of Florida, the weather is great year-round, there are plenty of outdoor activities on the lake, and about 30 minutes away from the major theme parks.

Homes in Minneola can range anywhere from $150,000 to $2 Million, with the average price in the low $500’s for a 4 bedroom and 3 bathroom home.

Food Options

Minneola offers many food options ranging from fast food to a formal sit-down restaurant. The Oakwood Smokehouse and Grille has delicious pulled pork sandwiches and sweet potato fries. The Crooked Spoon is a local American restaurant with good southern foods. If you want a good dessert, check out Bruster’s Real Ice Cream which offers many different flavors! And let’s not forget about one of our favorite spots to stop for some of the best donuts in Central Florida - Donut King.

Stores

Minneola offers all of the typical chain grocery and one stop shop stores. It’s located near Winter Garden Village which has independent stores that are unique and a perfect walk. If you’re into antiques, check out Lacey’s Past and Presents and the Vintage View which are both quirky vintage stores offering a little something for anyone who enjoys unique goods.

Location

As of today, Minneola only contains about 14,000 residents, so there is a lot of open land for development. A lot of this land is being allocated to new neighborhoods, while still preserving some of the natural beauty throughout including the Green Mountain Scenic Overlook.

Accessibility is a huge factor when it comes to this growing area as well. With it being right off the Turnpike, this makes for an easy trip to Downtown Orlando, the theme parks, and more! Though it’s closer to the West coast, the East coast beaches are also about an hour away. Winter Garden and Windermere are closely located and offer many different shops and restaurants to check out.

Overall

If you want to be surrounded by natural beauty, but close enough to drive to the heart of Orlando and more, Minneola is perfect for you! The possibilities are pretty much endless, and  considering how close Minneola is to Universal and Disney, you can plan on many theme park trips! Have you ever visited Minneola?
