Grab Some Fresh Honey at the Winter Garden Honey Farm

By Kismet Kohn

Have you ever had a piece of toast, or cup of tea, paired with some fresh honey made right here in Orlando? Well, now you can!

About the Farm

The Winter Garden Honey Farm is owned by Bob and Trilby Stevens. Their story began in the late 1960's, when Bob learned everything he knows now from his beekeeper mentor, Jim Bradshaw. Bob Stevens started his first honey company in 1975, at the age of 15, and officially started "Bob's Honey" in Apopka, Florida in 1985. In 2010, the Winter Garden Honey Company was created, with their honey farm producing the freshest, 100% pure honey with no additives.

The local farm is run year-round and offers a daily self-serve stand from 7 AM to 7 PM! Though bees have been in short supply recently, the Honey Farm is buzzing with bees because of their floral sources.

The Stevens' property offers many different flowers for the bees to pollinate, including Orange Blossoms which bloom in March, Palmetto which blooms in April and May, and Brazilian flowers which bloom in September and October. Each flower gives the honey a different taste, such as the orange blossoms which make the honey sweet with a citrus aftertaste.

The Palmetto honey is a Florida specialty and is becoming rare in the state itself, but Winter Garden Honey Farm still offers it! The Brazilian Pepper Honey is a sweet honey with a bit of a spicy aftertaste.

Self-Serve Store

The self-serve store has 24-hour surveillance and they recommend that no one under 18 enters without an adult. Once you pull up to the location, there's a small walkway, to the left of the gate on the Stevens' property, that leads to the small stand.

They offer the three types of honey mentioned previously, all in different sizes, so you don’t have to worry about buying too much or too little. They also offer honey sticks, perfect for your morning tea. Elderberry syrup is one of the local favorites at the stand, which is absolutely delicious, and not to mention it’s good for your health.

To make sure nothing goes to waste, the older honeycombs are turned into Beeswax Candles of varying sizes!

Inside the store, you can find their observational beehive, with bees making the honey and running off to pollinate some more plants! Since this is a self-serve stand, you can either pay with cash/check and drop it in their money box, OR pay with your phone through Cashapp or Zelle!

Tours and More!

The Winter Garden Honey Farm offers tours to classes and independent groups who want to visit the different farm locations. They’ll offer you information on how honey is made, including the crystallization process. You can taste test different honey and visit the bees putting in the work!

Overall

If you’re a bee or honey fan, you need to make the stop at the Winter Garden Honey Farm! The honey is 100% natural and tastes delicious on its own or in some drinks.
