Central Florida’s Independence Day celebrations are only days away, and this year's festivities will be bigger and busier as America marks its 250th anniversary. Two Greater Orlando area events – Red Hot & Boom and Fireworks at the Fountain – create famously big pyrotechnics shows that draw famously large crowds.
From road closures to event restrictions, The Orlando Real presents a guide to two of the region’s most popular 4th of July events.
Red Hot & Boom
The party begins a day early in Altamonte Springs at Cranes Roost Park. The free event starts at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 3, with a kids’ zone, food and beverage vendors, and live music leading up to the massive fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. Main stage performances include country singer-songwriter Chris Lane, Wish Radio, and Blue Stone Circle. The event ends at 10 p.m.
Red Hot & Boom draws between 150,000-200,000 attendees. Bag checks and security checkpoints will be in place and all Cranes Roots Park rules must be followed.
Guests are advised of the following restrictions:
- Coolers larger than two feet and grills of any kind are not allowed
- Glass containers, sharp objects, and weapons of any kind are not permitted
- Guests can't bring personal fireworks.
- Guests can't fly drones during the event.
- Pets are not allowed in Cranes Roost Park after 7 p.m.
The following items are permitted:
- Pop-up tents with no sides and canopies 10' x 10' and smaller
- Blankets and tarps no larger than 10' x 10'
- Folding chair and beach chairs
- Soft-sided coolers carried in by shoulder strap or single handle - no wheels
Event parking is available at surrounding areas and in select Altamonte Mall lots. However, the mall garages will be closed to manage traffic before and after the event. Two days of road closures are also scheduled:
July 2:
- Cranes Roost Blvd. closes at 10 a.m. between Shorecrest Dr. and Festival Dr.
- Uptown Blvd. is closed to through traffic starting at 10 a.m.
July 3:
- Festival Drive closes at 7 a.m. between the Altamonte Mall Loop Rd. and Central Parkway. CenterPointe Circle and Penland Lane close at 7 a.m.
- Festival Dr. at S.R. 436 closes at 6:30 p.m.
- Cranes Roost Blvd, closes at S.R. 436 at 6:30 p.m.

A VIP experience at the Oasis Beer Garden features food, beer, and cocktails in a covered lounge space along with a private viewing area for the fireworks. Tickets are $45 per person and available here.

Fireworks at the Fountain
The free event is hosted at Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando and begins at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 4. Viewing locations around the shore are first come, first served. Live music at the bandshell, a kids' play zone, and local food and beverage vendors are the main attractions until the big event begins at around 9 p.m. A fireworks spectacular launches from a barge at the center of the lake and is synchronized with a live performance by the Orlando Concert Band. The event ends at 10 p.m.
Fireworks at the Fountain draws about 100,000-150,000 attendees. All City of Orlando park rules must be followed.
Guests are advised of the following restrictions:
- Nothing can be staked into the ground (umbrellas, tents, etc.).
- No outside alcohol is permitted.
- Remote controlled aircraft, glass containers, and weapons of any kind are not permitted
- Guests cannot bring their own fireworks.
- No unauthorized vending or soliciting is permitted.
The following items are permitted:
- Outside food and non-alcoholic beverages
- Coolers, picnic blankets
- Beach chairs and umbrellas
- Leashed pets
The event draws more than 100,000 people. Downtown parking maps and information are available here.
Anyone traveling downtown should take note of the following road closures:
- Robinson St. from Rosalind Ave. to Summerlin Ave.: closed July 4 from 7 a.m. to midnight
- Eola Dr. from Robinson St. to Washington St.: closed from July 3 at 6 a.m. to July 5 at noon
- Rosalind Ave. from South St. to Robinson St.: closed July 4 from 2 p.m. to midnight
- Central Blvd. from Rosalind Ave. to Eola Dr.: closed July 4 from 2 p.m. to midnight
