Maitland is a small, Florida city located about 15 to 20 minutes north of Downtown Orlando. Part of Orange County, residents of Maitland enjoy the quieter atmosphere of this suburb, as well as the easy access to the area’s biggest attractions. As of 2021, the population of Maitland is just under 19,000.
To the north of Maitland is the larger city of Altamonte Springs and to the southeast is Winter Park. Apopka, another large city in Greater Orlando, is found to the far west. The I-4 and Orlando Avenue are the city's two main roads, running parallel north to south. In the southeast is the suburb’s largest lake, Lake Maitland.

One of the best parts of Maitland is the welcoming, outdoorsy community. There are numerous lakefront parks that residents enjoy spending time in, whether with the kids or walking the dog. Community events are often hosted, and there’s a Farmer’s Market every Sunday. Residents can reserve facilities at the local parks and purchase boat passes if they wish.
Maitland is a good mixture of residential and commercial areas, the latter of which are located mostly along Maitland Boulevard and Orlando Avenue. There are a multitude of great shops and restaurants to discover. The downtown area of Maitland includes the Maitland Public Library, the Art & History Museums of Maitland (which includes the Maitland Art Center and gardens), the Waterhouse Residence Museum, and charming walking paths around Lake Sybelia.
The city has parks, basketball courts, and green spaces located all over. Maitland Community Park is one of the largest, with a playground, sports fields, trails, and tennis courts. This area also hosts community events. Minnehaha Park, located on Lake Minnehaha, has a lot of the same features (tennis courts, a playground, fields). Lake Lily Park is a popular destination for residents to get up and out, as it features a beautiful boardwalk.
When it comes to schools, Maitland is served by Orange County Public Schools. There are three public schools in this city: Dommerich Elementary School, Lake Sybelia Elementary School, and Maitland Middle School. There are also private schools, some of which include Park Maitland School and Maitland Montessori School.
