Universal Studios Orlando have recently closed multiple attractions this month to make way for a new project. On January 15, 2023 we said goodbye to so many beloved attractions, and the opening date for the new project to replace these has yet to be announced. Here is everything we know about the departing attractions and what may be coming!
Departing Attractions
Universal announced a while back that they would be permanently closing several attractions in the children’s area of Universal Orlando in January of this year. These include the following attractions, which closed just this last weekend - Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster, Curious George Goes to Town, Fievel’s Playland, DreamWorks Destination, and Shrek and Donkey’s Meet & Greet. All of these attractions were located in Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone and were all themed after older cartoons that (quite frankly) aren’t as relevant anymore. E.T Adventure, SpongeBob SquarePants Meet & Greet, and Animal Actors on Location! will be the only attractions that remain in that location for the time being.
What’s Coming?
Universal took to social media in November of 2022 to make the announcement that something new would be coming. The announcement reads; “Universal Orlando will soon begin work on bringing exciting new family entertainment to Universal Studios Florida that will immerse guests in the adventures of beloved characters…” Universal has not made any new announcements as to exactly what is replacing these attractions, but we will be on the lookout to see what’s to come!
Overall
Many guests were upset that these attractions are closing - mainly due to nostalgia and the fact that it was the one place in Universal Orlando where little kids can have fun. Here’s to hoping that whatever replaces these beloved attractions are bigger and better and creates wonderful memories for a whole new generation of little ones!
