Replica of Dr. Phillips' Juice Stand Opens in The Packing District

By Yasmene Warren

It’s back. And it’s better than ever! Dr. Phillips’ iconic juice stand now has a replica in Orlando’s Packing District, bringing us back to a time of orange groves and Orlando history. Let’s dive in and see how this new spot ties in some of Orlando’s rich history.

History of the ‘Juice Stand’

Venture back 100 years and find Dr. Phillips himself putting a start to what would later become known as the “Juice Stand.”

Dr. Phillips initially purchased the Juice Stand in the 1920s for his citrus business where he packed, boxed, and shipped citrus products away. Orlando natives who have been around since this time would recall the smell of Orange blossoms and what a crowd this building grew well into the 1950s and 60s.

Because Dr. Phillips got his business booming from this stand, it’s only right now other local companies get to do the same - re-envisioning the area while also giving a nod to its history!

The Replica Juice Stand

Located on the corner of Orange Blossom Trail and Princeton Street, this replica is meant to serve as a landmark in the Orlando Packing District, paying homage to the area’s deep history in the citrus industry. It also will essentially serve as a new hub for the northwest part of Orlando as it connects major roads such as OBT, Princeton Street, and John Young Parkway.

This is just one of the projects within the 202-acre development known as the Packing District, led by Dr. Phillips Charities, that was first announced in 2018.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the new building Friday, Jan. 19, by city leaders, and the unveiling of this project certainly brought back memories for a lot of Orlando locals.

Following this, the replica Juice Stand officially opened for business a few days later on Jan. 22. Its vendors include local Orlando favorites such as Foxtail Coffee, Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream, and Ravenous Pig Brewing Company.

The architecture of the building is shaped like the original circular structure and similar bright neon lights inside, but with a modern flare. It offers plenty of seating, and a warm atmosphere perfect for grabbing a drink with a friend before walking around The Packing District.

If you look closely, you can even see the repurposed brick used from the old Dr. Phillips buildings in the 1900s for this new spot's countertops and benches outside!
