Sampaguita Ice Cream

By Yasmene Warren

The sun is coming back out, and that means the need to feed on something cold and sweet is stronger than ever. Luckily, there are loads of places to get ice cream at in Orlando. However, this one stands out a little more than the others; it’s Sampaguita Ice Cream.

What is Sampaguita Ice Cream?

Sampaguita is an ice cream parlor in Orlando located on East Colonial Drive just outside of downtown. This place makes Filipino-inspired ice creams and explores “the richness of Filipino culture, family traditions, and self-identity.”

Sampaguita has been soft opening with limited hours since January and is currently open Monday through Thursday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Its grand opening will be announced on its Instagram page @sampaguitaicecream.

The Flavors

Although there are fewer than 31 flavors, each one on Sampaguita’s menu stands out above any ordinary ice cream parlor’s.

Because Sampaguita serves Filipino-inspired ice cream flavors, you’ll find tastes like ube latte, soy sauce butterscotch, jackfruit chili nut, keso guava cheesecake and more on the menu. As for your scoops, you can get a single, double, triple, or “flight” scoop on a waffle or cake cone.

The toppings at this ice cream parlor are pretty typical of those you’d find at any other, such as sprinkles, oreo and hot fudge. Unlike typical ice cream parlors, however, Sampaguita offers ube sprinkles, ube sauce, pineapple caramel, and ube whipped cream. If a regular scoop on a cone isn’t quite your thing, you can also get a scoop in a cup, a sundae, or a milkshake.

Located at the entrance are canned and bottled beverages, as well as Sampaguita merchandise such as T-shirts, tote bags, and stickers.

The Sweetest Vibes

The light from the windows isn't the only aspect of this place brightening up the room! The plant life filling the corners and lining the ceilings against the matching leafy wallpaper truly brings life into this shop.

There are cozy booths and tables for you to sit and enjoy your sweet treats. Some of these have wall outlets, making for the perfect place to bring your laptop for a study or work session! Sampaguita’s warm environment definitely makes it hard to leave.
