Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) is gearing up for significant growth with more than $300 million in proposed developments set to reshape the airport and its surrounding areas. This expansion promises to create over 1,000 jobs while solidifying the airport’s role as a key economic driver in Central Florida.
Major Development Plans
The airport has approved letters of intent for several large-scale projects covering 157 acres of land. These developments include:
-
PPK Aviation LLC: Leasing 36 acres to build state-of-the-art commercial hangars, enhancing the airport’s aviation infrastructure.
-
EPC Aerospace: Securing 66.7 acres for an aircraft modification and maintenance center, reinforcing Sanford’s role in aviation innovation.
-
Diversified Realty Acquisitions LLC: Proposing new hangars and potentially a hotel, adding a hospitality element to the airport’s facilities.
These projects are expected to drive job creation and stimulate economic growth in Seminole County.

Economic and Community Impact
Seminole County officials recognize the airport as a cornerstone for economic development, particularly along East Lake Mary Boulevard and the surrounding area. With 450 acres of available land, 150 acres already designated for development, and more projects on the way, the expansion presents significant opportunities for aviation, commercial, and industrial growth.
“This development will be upwards of $300-$400 million, complementing everything already in place,” said Commissioner Jay Zembower.
Commissioner Lee Constantine emphasized the economic benefits, stating, “We’re talking about 1,000 jobs, including hangars, a maintenance center, and even a possible hotel.”
Transforming the Midway Community
The expansion is particularly impactful for the Midway community, which is situated near the development sites. Commissioner Andria Herr highlighted the benefits, noting that the new job opportunities will be easily accessible to residents, including those who may not have personal transportation.
“Folks there can now walk to meaningful job opportunities, particularly younger residents who may not have a car,” Herr said. “This can change the economic trajectory of their lives.”

With groundbreaking expected before the end of the year, these projects mark the beginning of a transformative era for Orlando Sanford International Airport and Seminole County. As negotiations progress and final approvals are secured, the region is on track for substantial economic growth and long-term prosperity.
