Tavistock is taking greater Orlando’s real estate industry by storm as it stands as the largest diversified real estate development company in the entire city. What does this mean? There isn’t a single asset class that Tavistock doesn’t touch, meaning this company does multi-family apartment, office, residential, and hotel realty, among others. To put it short, Tavistock is one giant community developer, and it’s well known for its work across Central Florida - especially the Lake Nona region.

Tavistock & Lake Nona's Beginnings
Not only is Tavistock a real estate development giant, but this company has also been singlehandedly servicing the Lewis family since its inception. This family has resided in Central Florida for over 50 years and is known for having first purchased the Lake Nona Country Club.
What accompanied this purchase was a large plot of land just south of the country club along Narcoossee Road. Over time, more land was added to it, and a variety of medical institutions such as Sanford Burnham (now UCF Lake Nona Cancer Center), Nemours, Veterans Affairs, and more, which led to the Lake Nona region being regarded as the “Medical City.” From here, instead of selling excess land, it was developed into places we know today like Laureate Park with the addition of various restaurants and businesses.

Tavistock consistently seeks feedback from the Orlando communities it serves and does so by conducting a community survey annually. This survey allows residents to voice their concerns with things like traffic, infrastructure, trails, and even what kinds of businesses they want to come to the area.
Tavistock President and COO Craig Collin is a Lake Nona resident himself and said he always stops to talk to residents about their community. “I love talking to people,” Collin says. “I love what I do, and if I can make it better for everyone, you know, that’s a big part of why I do what I do.”
How Tavistock is Setting Sunbridge Apart from Lake Nona
Tavistock has helped develop a large portion of Lake Nona, and its next project is Sunbridge, which sits just east of Lake Nona. Developers not only want to enhance the area, but they also want to protect its assets. Sunbridge is currently home to three lakes and is abundant in trees and natural greenery. With Sunbridge, Tavistock hopes to connect its residents with nature at what Collin describes as a very “deep and intimate level.”

What Tavistock does differently from other developers is that it takes bigger measures to ensure Florida’s nature is properly preserved. Some of these measures include creating a nonprofit, having a naturalist on staff, and partnering with a local school in Osceola County and integrating it into its program. “We wanted to have people within 15 minutes to be immersed in nature,” Collin says. “I think we have a great opportunity to do that at Sunbridge. We feel we’re stewards of the land … but I think we have a very unique opportunity to give people that access to nature.”
After developing Lake Nona into what we know it as today, Tavistock is taking what it has learned and bringing both knowledge and improvements to Sunbridge. Developers will be focusing a lot more on the different kinds of residential housing they’ll need to provide, giving people the ability to choose and balance the types of homes they want. Tavistock plans to essentially start anew in terms of long-term maintenance due to Sunbridge’s natural landscape.
Why Tavistock is Fixed on Orlando
Tavistock President Craig Collin says he’s fixed on real estate development in Florida largely because of the people who are moving here. Most people think it’s the age 65+ crowd given the state’s reputation as a retirement haven, but Collin says it’s actually a variety of well-educated individuals in their thirties coming from all over! The wide diversity of people, food, arts, and more is what attracts Tavistock to assist in the growth of the City Beautiful.
