The Edison in Disney Springs

by Holley Long

Orlando has no shortage of unique restaurants and bars, but there’s one place in the city that will bring you all the way back to the 1920’s. When you spend time at The Edison, you can celebrate the present, while being immersed in the past.

The History

The Edison, located in The Landing district of Disney Springs, opened in late 2017. Since then, the restaurant has thrilled tourists and locals alike with its unique atmosphere and entertainment.

Built in 1901, the building was originally an electric power plant, which works in favor of the now 20th-century power plant theming at the restaurant. Clockwork and factory decor give off a steampunk vibe upstairs, while below ground hides a secret bar—because of prohibition laws, of course—and a stage for entertainment reminiscent of another time.

Last visit, I headed downstairs for a minute and heard a few jazz singers performing a timeless ballad. Listen to just one note of any of the live music at The Edison and it’ll take you back decades.

The Food

The menu includes American cuisine with an added flair, including flatbreads, salads, ribs, grilled cheese, and the signature “The Edison” burger.

One of the most unique items on the menu, however, is located in the “Shares & Nibbles” section. The DB ‘Clothesline Candied Bacon is served exactly how it sounds - crispy bacon seasoned with maple syrup and pepper, hanging from a miniature clothes line. This is also paired with fruit mostarda, and sweet and spicy pickles.

Cocktails and More!

What’s a 1920’s party without a little alcohol? Each drink is carefully crafted and uniquely prepared, making the drinks here second to none. If your whole party wants the same drink, you can even order a couple of their cocktails to be served in a punchbowl for the table!

Be sure to try their specialty holiday cheer menu and high roller cocktails as well for a special treat. They also serve “mocktails” for those underage or looking to enjoy the flavor without the buzz.

5th Annual New Year’s Eve Party

*This event is unfortunately sold out this year*

The Edison is quite an experience, but let’s be honest—it came on the scene with a New Year’s Eve party on opening day December 31st of 2017, and that’s when the restaurant really shines. New Year’s Eve at The Edison strives to entice your every sense with music, entertainment, and—my favorite part—food.

Party attendees dine on passed appetizers and a delicious dinner and dessert buffet, then enjoy handcrafted cocktails and premium beers—cash bar, though, sorry. Want a drink and a show? Order A Fire In Vermont—the cocktail of Vermouth and brandy is served aflame barside, and it has just the right amount of dramatic flair to suit the festivities.

Speaking of the festivities, guests will hear the usual 1920s-style music, but you can also watch performances by jazz dancers and stilt walkers—and then maybe show off your own moves on the dance floor. And don’t forget to look up, because the aerial performers put on an impressive show.

Overall

The Edison never fails to offer a lively good time on any night all year round! Then after dinner, you can walk around and enjoy the rest of Disney Springs. The outdoor complex is full of bars for a nightcap and shops to browse through. This will ensure you get a good fill of Disney magic without even having to step foot in a park.

For New Year’s Eve or just a night out, make sure The Edison is on your list of places to check out in Orlando!
