The Enzian Theater

By Yasmene Warren

Calling all film junkies and cult classic fans! There’s a hidden gem nested in the city of Maitland that has just about everything a true film lover could ask for, and it’s called the Enzian Theater.

What is the Enzian Theater?

The Enzian Theater is an independent cinema located in Maitland on Orlando Avenue. According to its website, it is the only full-time cinema in Central Florida, and serves as a single-screen cinema café. Unlike other theaters, it primarily only shows independent and foreign films.

The theater is also home to the Eden Bar for a bite to eat, and special events such as the Florida Film Festival, which just ended and took place from April 14 to April 23.

The box office is open daily from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Eden Bar is open Mondays and Tuesdays from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Dining at the Eden Bar

Once you get done viewing the latest independent films or a timeless cult classic, you can walk on over to Eden Bar, which sits just to the right of the box office. The best part about an on-site bar at the cinema is that you can order food and drinks to enjoy during your movie!

People dining outside

For starters, you can order cinema favorites such as Enzian popcorn or kettle corn, fries, ultimate nachos, or chips and salsa. If you want some untraditional theater foods, you can also get edamame, truffle parmesan fries, a loaded chicken quesadilla, sweet and spicy fried shrimp and more.

At Eden, there’s also a soup and salad section where you can order soups like tomato cream soup, minestrone soup, or beef chili, and salads like the house salad, a Caesar salad with or without chicken, a fried chicken salad, and a caprese salad.

As for sandwiches, you can order a turkey panini, grilled chicken melt, black bean burger, a chicken salad croissant and more. Each sandwich is served with your choice of soup, fries, mac & cheese, or a side house salad. Eden also serves flatbreads, such as cheese, “fantastic fungi,” pepperoni and pear prosciutto, among others.

Once you’ve finished stuffing your face with all the good stuff, Eden also has plenty of sweet treats to offer as well. For dessert, you can order chocolate chip cookies, the ice cream of the day, white chocolate bread pudding or mini donuts.

  • Saturday - where they’re asking “How you feelin’?” and offering a $6 Smirnoff Bloody Mary, $5 double mimosa, a $5 Captain Morgan spiced rum, and a $6 Jameson.
  • Sunday - it’s time to “party on!” and order a $6 Smirnoff Bloody Mary and $5 double mimosas.

Films at the Enzian

Because Enzian Theater isn’t a regular cinema, don’t expect to waltz in and get tickets to Hollywood’s hottest new film. Enzian prides itself on showcasing independent films made by filmmakers who haven’t quite made it to Hollywood yet.
