Winter Park Farmer's Market

by Kismet Kohn

The Winter Park Farmers Market occurs every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM just a block from Park Avenue in the West Meadow. This market is prime for buying produce, plants, and organic foods and drinks. Even if you’re not looking to buy groceries for the week, it’s the perfect way to start the weekend!

Vendors

The vendors at the Winter Park Farmers Market can change slightly from week to week but most remain the same. The vendors are usually small businesses that are unique to the area and have better quality than many of the common chain stores.

DOGgone Gourmet Treats

The market is such a fun activity for friends and family partly because there are so many dogs around! People will bring their dogs and walk around the market with them, stopping at DOGgone Gourmet Treats. This is a necessary stop if you have a dog, especially if you want to dress them in a sweater, spoil them with treats, or surprise them with toys.

 Ginny’s Orchids

Ginny’s Orchids will always hold a special place in my heart as it does for many who live near Winter Park. I grew up with my father getting these orchids for my mother and now I go to the market to buy them for my boyfriend! These flowers are the perfect gift for a loved one and are beautiful to look at when wandering around the market.

Mountain Kettle Corn

A farmers market isn’t a success without buying at least one bag of kettle corn, at least, that’s what I tell myself. The kettle corn is prepared in a large kettle in front of everyone at the market and the smells will drift over the crowd. Your stomach won’t be satisfied until you get some kettle corn!

Produce

If you’re looking for herbs to prepare a delicious meal look no further than Florida’s Fresh Live Herbs! They’re cheap, easy to take care of, and last long so you don’t need to buy in small quantities from the grocery store ever again.

Sugar Top Farms is there every week supplying fresh, organic fruit and vegetables for the city, and I can safely say that their apples are somehow juicier than Publix apples. The vendors know their facts and offer great deals that grocery stores just can’t compete with.

Overall

These are just some highlights, the Winter Park Farmers Market supplies everything from fresh honey to knife sharpenings to Nutella waffles. If you don’t want to spend money at the market you can still have fun, taking in the scenic view Park Avenue offers and petting the tens of dogs enjoying the market as well!
