As new renderings of Camping World Stadium upgrades were revealed last week, the event venue component of the project moved into a new phase with approvals from the Municipal Planning Board. The Orlando Real reached out to Orlando Venues and Florida Citrus Sports for additional details and updates.

Funding

The $61 million venue is among $400 million in stadium investments, funded by a 2024 allocation from the Orange County Tourist Development Tax. Plans were revealed last year when the bidding process began for a design/build partnership. The chosen applicant, Gilbane Building Company, is currently in the design phase.

The location

The 3.86-acre property by the Tampa Avenue/Church Street intersection is part of a 2025 city purchase that was added to the Community Redevelopment Agency boundary. The land currently includes the former Tabernacle of Praise Ministry church building, for which Planning Board members granted a demolition permit along with a conditional use permit for the events center build.

Event hosting

The event center will feature a climate-controlled field house capable of hosting competitive sports, banquets and hospitality, conventions, and live music events. The field can be configured for eight basketball courts, 16 volleyball courts, 18 pickleball courts, or a full football field. An event room, open mezzanine, concessions, cafe, flexible locker rooms and additional rentable spaces will also be included.

The venue could also complement major events at Camping World Stadium – such as college bowl games or major concert events – by offering pre- and post-event hospitality.

The impact

A feasibility study for the event center concept, carried out by Hunden Partners and commissioned by Florida Citrus Sports, projected the venue to average at least 70 events per year with an estimated annual economic impact of $24-$30 million.

Naming rights

Camping World Stadium naming rights expired in 2024. Florida Citrus Sports holds the contractual rights to sell the sponsorships and are currently pursuing naming rights opportunities for the stadium and event center.

Parking

The venue is close to existing Camping World Stadium lots, but the possibility exists for a scheduling overlap with gamedays or major concert events. The Orlando Real was told possibilities for parking needs are being explored.

One possible solution is the Florida Citrus Sports proposal for a new multi-level parking structure that will go before the Orange County Tourist Development Tax Citizen Advisory Task Force. The garage will be part of the Camping World Stadium campus for additional event parking, aimed at reducing parking overflow issues in the neighboring community.

A construction timeline has not yet been developed for the event center. However, the expectation is for work to begin before the end of the year with completion in the fall of 2027.
