New Projects Coming to Lake Nona This Year and Beyond

By Yasmene Warren

Changes are coming to Orlando’s Lake Nona region, and some of them are pretty big. Here are a few of the major changes addressed at the Spring 2023 Lake Nona community meeting that are coming to the area.

A New Library

After countless petitions and signatures, Lake Nona finally got approved by the Orange County Library System in the summer of 2022 to receive a library on Dowden Road.

This new library will be built next to the impending Southeast Government Center west of Narcoosee Road and east of the Orlando International Airport. It is expected to employ around 20 employees and will be complete with a shared stage and outdoor space.

The grand opening date isn’t exact, but it’s expected to be sometime between late 2024 and early 2025.

UCF College of Nursing at Lake Nona

The University of Central Florida is getting 90,000 square feet of space at its Academic Health Sciences campus in Lake Nona. This new building will consist of more classrooms, study rooms, and simulation and skill labs.

At the College of Nursing’s new permanent home, UCF is able to admit more students into its BSN programs, as well as hire more faculty members to teach those students.

Lake Nona is known as Orlando’s medical city, and this new building will neighbor the UCF Lake Nona Medical Center, UCF Lake Nona Cancer Center, the University of Florida Pharmacy College, a Veterans Affairs Medical Center, a Nemours Children’s Hospital, Johnson & Johnson Performance Institute and much more, according to the UCF Nursing website.

Nami will feature both a dining room and cocktail bar, and its 10-seat omakase counter will provide an intimate and exclusive dining experience for its patrons. You can follow Nami along on its journey by keeping up with its Instagram page at @namilakenona.

A New Elementary and Middle School

Lake Nona will be getting two new schools within the next two years: an elementary and a middle school. These will be two separate campuses, but will share a location and infrastructure just west of Laureate Park.Map of new Lake Nona school site

Between the two, there will be 1,350 students, and the zoning process began just last September.

The middle school is ahead of the elementary school in terms of progress and will be opening in 2024, with the elementary following in 2025.
