Where to Beat the Heat in Orlando

Summer in Central Florida can be brutally hot, especially if you are a new resident or someone visiting on vacation. We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite places in Central Florida to beat the Summer heat, for every family and age.

Winter Garden Interactive Fountain & Splashpad

In Downtown Winter Garden there is a free and splash-tastic way to beat the summer sun and that is the Interactive Fountain and Splashpad. Kids can enjoy the cool water while adults can relax on benches shaded by trees and umbrellas. Nearby, check out Scoops Old Fashioned Ice Cream Store for a frozen treat after, or visit Press’d Juice Bar & Kitchen for fresh juice and acai bowls. There are other splash pads in Central Florida as well, including one at Kissimmee Lakefront Park, and one in Dr Phillips, so there may be another located closer to you!

ICEBAR Orlando

ICEBAR Orlando is a really fun and unique spot on I-Drive where you can visit a 22 degree bar that is filled with over 70 tons of handmade ice. Chilly cocktails await at the bar, as well as the opportunity to pose with penguin plushies and a giant polar bear chair for photos. This one does cost an entrance fee, which includes the rental of a thermal jacket and gloves to help keep you warm while you’re holding your glass made of ice. Check out our article about this location here!

Wekiva Island

Wekiva Island is located north of Orlando, and has a variety of fun things to do for the whole family with the backdrop of the cold Florida springs. Rentals are available for paddleboards and kayaks, or if you choose to stay on land you can rent a cabana and relax in the shade. On property, you can grab an ice cold beverage at The Tooting Otter, including craft local beers and wine on tap. For food, check out Without a Paddle Cafe for sandwiches, burgers, seafood, and more. Wekiva Island also takes pride in their eco-friendly efforts, and has even pledged to be carbon neutral by 2030.

Blue Spring State Park

There are many different springs in the state of Florida, and each of them offer different sights to see as well as frigid waters to keep you cool this summer. Blue Spring State Park is one of the closest to Orlando, and is known for the abundance of manatees in its waters. Here you can go tubing, rent a kayak or paddleboard, scuba dive, swim, fish, take a boat tour, and more. Keep in mind, there are numerous laws in place to keep the manatees safe so you won’t actually be able to swim with the manatees, but you can scuba dive with them as long as you keep a distance of 50 feet.

Orlando Watersports Complex

Orlando Watersports Complex offers a variety of activities on their lakefront, including an aquapark, waterskiing, and tubing. For a fee, you can get out on the water and have a blast participating in sports or learning from their one on one lessons. They also offer a summer camp for kids, and each day of the week they have specials like college day on Friday and ladies day on Thursday for discounted fees. They also have a Dockside Grill for food throughout your day, and a Pro Shop Market for gear and snacks.
